Factors leading to the risk of stroke mortality: a cross-sectional study with lung cancer patient-based large sample
To identify the risk factors for stroke mortality among lung cancer patients on the basis of the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. The clinical data of lung cancer patients diagnosed between 2004 and 2016 were collected in the SEER database. The stroke mortality of lung cancer patients was compared with the general population using standardized mortality ratios (SMRs). COX proportional hazard model was applied to analyze the risk factors for stroke mortality among lung cancer patients. Among 82 454 patients, 4821 (5.85%) died of stroke. The stroke mortality rate in lung cancer patients signific...

A Case of Perioperative Stroke Caused by Tumour Embolus. (P6.244)
CONCLUSIONS: Tumour embolism has previously been described with primary and secondary lung neoplasms, as well as cardiac tumours. Although rare, this should be considered as a potential cause of perioperative stroke in patients after cancer surgery.Study Supported by: Non-applicable.Disclosure: Dr. Hughes has nothing to disclose. Management of acute ischemic stroke after pulmonary resection: incidence and efficacy of endovascular thrombus aspiration
ConclusionSince cerebral infarction impairs the patient ’s quality of life, thrombus removal should be considered if possible.

Cryptotanshinone possesses therapeutic effects on ischaemic stroke through regulating STAT5 in a rat model
CONCLUSION: Our findings not only enhance the understanding of the mechanisms underlying CT treatment, but also indicate its potential value as a promising agent in the treatment of ischaemic stroke. Further study will be valuable to examine the effects of CT on patients with ischaemic stroke.PMID:33915069 | DOI:10.1080/13880209.2021.1914672

Short ‐term outcomes in patients with lung cancer‐associated acute ischemic stroke
ConclusionIn this study, we have identified three independent risk factors associated with poor short-term outcomes in pLCAIS: higher NC, CRP, and D-dimer levels. These findings may be helpful for clinicians in identifying poor short-term outcomes patients.

Ischemic stroke in a patient with EGFR ‐mutated non–small‐cell lung cancer after treatment with ramucirumab
This article presents the case of a non–small-cell lun g cancer patient who experienced a new ischemic stroke after treatment with ramucirumab. The findings suggest that further studies may be necessary to investigate the relationship between ramucirumab and the risk of ischemic stroke.

Endovascular aspiration to treat acute ischemic stroke caused by embolic carcinoma.
We report a rare case of large-cell, high-grade neuroendocrine lung cancer embolus occluding the basilar artery, which likely detached into the bloodstream from the lung after intruding into a pulmonary vein. The embolus was treated with endovascular aspiration, and achieved modified Thrombolysis In Cerebral Infarction 2c revascularization. After initial neurological recovery, the patient suffered respiratory arrest and support was withdrawn 48 h later. We discuss the tumor characteristics and implications for treatment of acute ischemic stroke in patients with cancer diagnoses. PMID: 30786802 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Cumulative Incidence of Thromboembolism and Prognostic Impact of Stroke in < em > BRAF < /em > V600E-mutant Non-small-cell Lung Cancer
CONCLUSION: A substantial proportion of patients with BRAF V600E-mutant lung cancer experienced thromboembolism during their disease course. CRS of undetermined source may predict a worse prognosis in this population.PMID:36697098 | DOI:10.21873/anticanres.16237

Acute ischaemic stroke and myocardial infarction after chemotherapy with vinorelbine for non-small cell lung cancer: a case report.
We report about a 70-year-old male with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer who received vinorelbine as an outpatient. The patient presents with a cardiovascular risk profile. He was admitted to the hospital 3 days later with acute left-sided hemiplegia and hemianopia. Brain computed tomography (CT) demonstrated acute right hemispheric ischaemic stroke. Nine days after admission, the patient additionally suffered ST elevation myocardial infarction. A coronary angiogram demonstrated high grade stenosis of the right coronary artery treated with two bare-metal stents. Caution should be noted in patients who present with a c...

High blood pressure: Why me?
“I go to the gym, and I never add salt. So why do I have high blood pressure?” Despite its astonishing prevalence of one in three Americans, many people struggle with the diagnosis of high blood pressure, or hypertension. It’s worth exploring why, because being an active participant in your care is crucial for optimal blood pressure control. Certain features make any diagnosis easier to accept: First, people are more likely to accept a diagnosis if they have symptoms. A person with cough and fever will believe a diagnosis of pneumonia. But someone who feels fine would not. Next, people more readily accept a diagnosi...

Ischemic stroke caused by giant cell arteritis associated with pulmonary adenocarcinoma
We describe a 77-year-old man with a sudden onset of dizziness, vomiting, and gait disturbances. Following imaging studies, a diagnosis of bulbar ischemic stroke with left vertebral artery stenosis was made. Based on a history of polymyalgia rheumatica, on laboratory tests, and brain digital subtraction angiography, a diagnosis of GCA was advanced and the patient underwent high-dose steroidal therapy. After a total body 18-FGD PET imaging, a pulmonary adenocarcinoma was found.Vertebral artery involvement is a rare but important occurrence in GCA as it carries a high mortality rate, and may require a vigorous therapeutic ap...

Aortogenic embolic stroke after sleeve pneumonectomy with median sternotomy for lung cancer: a case report
ConclusionThe median sternotomy approach in sleeve pneumonectomy enables diseased lung ventilation. However, the possibility of aortogenic embolic stroke should be considered when calcification of the ascending aorta is observed on preoperative computed tomography.
