Diindolylmethane Ameliorates Ischemic Stroke-Induced Brain Injury by Peripheral and Central Mechanisms
CONCLUSION: This inhibition of platelet aggregation, platelet mediated oxidative stress, and inflammation, improved blood flow, and reduced neurological deficits, brain infarction, BBB leakage, brain water content, and histopathological abnormalities indicate the preservation of brain structural integrity. Therefore, these findings conclude that DIM exhibits neuroprotection by inhibiting platelet aggregation. Mesenchymal Stem Cells Prevent Hydrocephalus After Severe Intraventricular Hemorrhage Basic Sciences
Conclusions— Intraventricular transplantation of umbilical cord blood-derived mesenchymal stem cells significantly attenuated the posthemorrhagic hydrocephalus and brain injury after IVH. This neuroprotective mechanism appears to be mediated by the anti-inflammatory effects of these cells.

(American College of Emergency Physicians) Emergency physicians correctly identified nearly 100 percent of patients with Bell's palsy, the symptoms of which are nearly identical to potentially life-threatening diseases such as stroke and brain tumors. The results of a study of six years of California patient records were published online yesterday in Annals of Emergency Medicine.

Is Achondroplasia Linked to Stroke? (P6.265)
CONCLUSIONS:This case shows an interesting correlation between achondroplasia and carney complex related myxomas that has not been described in literature before. Achondroplasia is an autosomal dominant mutation in FGFR3 gene on chromosome 4P. Mutaions in carney complex are also described to be autosomal dominant mostly involving chromosome 17q23-q24 . Intratumoral Hemorrhage in a Patient with Malignant Meningioma under Anticoagulant Therapy
We report the case of an elderly woman with malignant meningioma and atrial fibrillation who started taking anticoagulants after an ischemic stroke and subsequently developed intratumoral hemorrhage. Further studies are required to confirm whether a particular anticoagulant agent is suitable for patients with brain tumor and atrial fibrillation.

Strengthening the immune system’s fight against brain cancer
When cancer strikes, it may be possible for patients to fight back with their own defenses, using a strategy known as immunotherapy. According to a new study published in Nature, researchers have found a way to enhance the effects of this therapeutic approach in glioblastoma, a deadly type of brain cancer, and possibly improve patient outcomes. The research was funded by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) as well as the National Cancer Institute (NCI), which are part of the National Institutes of Health.
