Expression of p16 < sup > INK4a < /sup > in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma from a tertiary cancer centre of South India: A preliminary study
CONCLUSIONS: The p16 positive OPSCC cases constituted a small proportion in the present study and behaved similar to p16 negative cases. Usage of tobacco and alcohol appear to be the susceptible factors even in p16 positive cases. More studies from other States would be helpful to determine if HPV-related SCC in the Indian subcontinent behave differently or similarly to cases from Western countries.PMID:35345076 | DOI:10.4103/ijmr.IJMR_386_19

Histomolecular structural aspects of high endothelial vessels in lymph node and its significance in oral cancer and metastasis
Chandrasekar Poosarla, Arvind Babu Rajendra Santosh, Swetha Gudiseva, Indira Meda, Venkat Ramana Reddy BaddamNorth American Journal of Medical Sciences 2015 7(12):540-546Molecular cancer research studies focus on identifying diagnostic, screening, and metastatic indicators, and monitoring therapeutic responses. Migration of tumor cells and lymphocytes are important aspects in metastasis. High endothelial vessels are specialized histological structures identified in the blood vessels in lymphoid organs, which allow the migration of lymphocytes. In the recent decades, the role of high endothelial vessels is being addressed i...

Cancers, Vol. 14, Pages 2836: Non-Melanoma Skin Cancer Clearance after Medical Treatment Detected with Noninvasive Skin Imaging: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Conclusions: Routine clinical examination and dermoscopy underperform when employed for NMSC clearance monitoring, although they represent the first approach to the patient. OCT and RCM seem to improve the detection of persistent BCC after medical treatment.

Family history of cancer, personal history of medical conditions and risk of oral cavity cancer in France: the ICARE study
Conclusion: A family history of head and neck cancer is a marker of an increased risk of oral cavity cancer and should be taken into account to target prevention efforts and screening. Further studies are needed to clarify the association between oral cavity cancer and personal history of candidiasis.

Fucoidan reduced the invasion of oral squamous cell carcinoma cells and modified their effects to macrophages
In this study, we analyzed the effects of fucoidan on invasion of OSCC cells, and their regulation to macrophages, trying to evaluate its role as a potential therapy for OSCC. CAL27 and THP-1-derived macrophages were used as models for OSCC cells and tumor-infiltrated macrophages in the in vitro study, respectively. The effects of fucoidan on invasion of OSCC cells and their recruitment to macrophages were analyzed by transwell assay. KIF4A siRNA transfection was performed to investigate its role in fucoidan-modulated OSCC cells invasion. CCL3-neutralizing antibody was added into the conditioned medium of OSCC cells to eva...

Screening for head and neck tumors in patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and vice versa: a nationwide survey among medical specialists
Conclusions This Dutch nationwide survey revealed a lack of knowledge and different perspectives among specialists about screening to detect SPTs in ESCC and HNSCC patients. Adequate education seems essential to increase awareness among specialists and improve SPT detection, independent of the need for implementation of screening for SPTs in ESCC and HNSCC patients. Human blood plasma proteome mapping for search of potential markers of the lung squamous cell carcinoma.
Authors: Shevchenko VE, Kovalev SV, Arnotskaya NE, Zborovskaya IB, Akhmedov BB, Polotskii BE, Kostin AU, Moukeria AF, Zaridze DG, Davidov MI Abstract Blood plasma proteomes obtained from 77 lung squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) patients (Stages I-III) and 67 healthy controls (all males) were analyzed by using the label-free liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method for the search of potential cancer biomarkers. All plasma samples were depleted of 14 highly-abundant plasma proteins by immune-affinity column chromatography before LC-MS/MS. We identified and quantified 809 differential proteins wi...

Prospective study of the influence of psychological and medical factors on quality of life and severity of symptoms among patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma
Publication date: Available online 17 February 2015 Source:British Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Author(s): M. Rana , A. Kanatas , P.Y. Herzberg , M. Khoschdell , H. Kokemueller , N.-C. Gellrich , M. Rana About 400,000 people worldwide are diagnosed with oral squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) annually, and the incidence is increasing. Many advanced carcinomas of the oral cavity require radical surgical treatment that can impair patient's quality of life (QoL) and severity of symptoms. We therefore aimed to identify coping strategies and disease-specific medical factors that affect QoL and severity of symptoms. Pa...
