How Can We Improve Adenoma Detection Rate?
Abstract Adenoma detection rate (ADR) is a considerable component of colonoscopy quality assurance; it has a clear link to future morbidity and mortality from colorectal cancer. There are a number of potential factors, both modifiable and non-modifiable that can impact upon ADR. Modes of improving ADR include techniques and behaviours during colonoscopy, image enhancement techniques, technological advancements, advancements in endoscope designs, developments in accessories and continued medical education. However, whilst a number of technologies are emerging to improve ADR, at present, it seems that education, tea...

ReCAP: Oncologists Selection of Genetic and Molecular Testing in the Evolving Landscape of Stage II Colorectal Cancer FOCUS ON QUALITY
In this study, we asked: how does the family history of patients with stage II CRC influence medical oncologists’ selection of genetic and molecular testing, both related and unrelated to Lynch syndrome? SUMMARY ANSWER: We found that oncologists’ self-reported ordering of Lynch syndrome–related tests was strongly associated with the strength of CRC family history, but even so, not all oncologists would order germline testing for mismatch repair (MMR) genes, much less screen for Lynch syndrome by ordering microsatellite instability and/or immunohistochemistry for MMR proteins, in a patient scenario with t...

Health-Related Predictors of Quality of Life in Cancer Patients in Saudi Arabia
AbstractResearch on Saudi Arabian cancer patients is a priority at King Abdulaziz Medical City (KAMC), Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Because there is limited research on the quality of life (QoL) of Saudi Arabian cancer patients, the aim of this study was to identify the predictors of the QoL in a sample of Saudis with cancer. In August 2016, a cross-sectional study was conducted on 438 patients with a variety of cancer types (145 breast, 109 colorectal, 38 leukemia, 45 lymphoma, and 99 other types) who attended the Oncology Outpatient Clinics at KAMC. Sociodemographics, clinical symptoms, and cancer treatments were collected for ...

Analysis of response-related endpoints in trials of first-line medical treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer
ConclusionThe results of the present trial-level analysis report a good performance of two response-related endpoints, DCR and ETS, and suggest that they could be differently used depending on the setting of disease and the type of medical treatment.

Improving Colon Cancer Prevention in Poland. A Long Way Off
AbstractThe aim of this study was to analyse knowledge on colon cancer prevention among patients of primary care and identify their sources of information. The questionnaire study was conducted among patients of 36 primary healthcare clinics in Poland between September 2018 and February 2019. Patients were interviewed separately by trained researchers. Over 39% of the primary health patients declared that their knowledge about colon cancer prevention is unsatisfactory. Information about colon cancer prevention varied according to sex, age and BMI. Men declared lower level of knowledge than women: 46% of men thought it was ...

High Value Care in Cancer Surveillance and Screening: Evaluating an e-Curriculum for Primary Care Providers
ConclusionThis curriculum provided concise, effective education for PCPs on 3 common cancers. Limitations include content breadth and lack of data reflecting physician ordering patterns. Curricular strengths include its accessibility, immediate feedback, and effectiveness, with a significant improvement in immediate and delayed post-test knowledge. Given a lack of increased confidence to provide cancer surveillance, PCPs should rely on electronic medical record tools and other resources to guide appropriate surveillance care.

Effectiveness of a Rectal Cancer Education Video on Patient Expectations
CONCLUSIONS: Patients have varying expectations of problematic control of bowel, urinary, and sexual function following rectal cancer treatments. A pre-treatment education video resulted in a trend towards changed expectations for functional outcomes in most patients. Further educational modalities for patients may provide more uniform expectations of function and increase patient satisfaction after rectal cancer treatments.PMID:35396809 | DOI:10.1111/codi.16143
