The Choice of Healthy Source of Energy for Cooking Among Households in Ghana: Does Financial Inclusion Matter?
This study, therefore, investigates the effect of financial inclusion on the choice of healthy source of energy for cooking among households in Ghana. Doing so reveals whether financial inclusion can be employed as a tool to decrease the use of unhealthy sources of energy for cooking in Ghana. We employ the Ghana Living Standards Survey round 7 (GLSS7) as the data source for the study whiles the binary logistic regression is used as the estimation technique. The findings show that, households with financial inclusion (using a single indicator) are more likely to choose healthy sources of energy for cooking relative to thos...

PHLDA1 knockdown alleviates mitochondrial dysfunction and endoplasmic reticulum stress-induced neuronal apoptosis via activating PPAR γ in cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury
Brain Res Bull. 2023 Jan 18;194:23-34. doi: 10.1016/j.brainresbull.2023.01.007. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMitochondrial dysfunction and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress occur in ischemic stroke. The disruption of these two organelles can directly lead to cell death through various signaling pathways. Thus, investigation of the associated molecular mechanisms in cerebral ischemia is a prerequisite for stroke treatment. Pleckstrin homology-like domain family A member 1 (PHLDA1) is a multifunctional protein that can modulate mitochondrial function and ER stress in cardiomyocyte and cancer cells. This work studied the rol...

Cardiovascular outcomes in patients with cancer during a 5-year follow-up: Results from a French administrative database
CONCLUSIONS: In this observational study, we have shown that patients with cancer have a higher incidence of all-cause mortality, cardiovascular mortality and myocardial infarction. However, multivariable analysis showed a lower cumulative incidence of these events.PMID:36641244 | DOI:10.1016/j.acvd.2022.11.006

Scottish Firefighters Occupational Cancer and Disease Mortality Rates: 2000-2020
ConclusionsUK firefighters suffer significant excess mortality from cancer and other diseases when compared with the general population. Preventative health monitoring and presumptive legislation are urgently required to protect UK firefighters ’ health.

Systemic inflammation response index as a prognostic predictor in patients with acute ischemic stroke: A propensity score matching analysis
ConclusionA higher SIRI (≥4.57) was associated with a higher risk of 90-day, 30-day, and 1-year mortality and was an independent risk factor of mortality in patients with acute ischemic stroke.

Extracellular Vesicles as Delivery Shippers for Noncoding RNA ‐Based Modulation of Angiogenesis: Insights from Ischemic Stroke and Cancer
Although noticeable pathophysiological discrepancies exist in cancer and stroke, these two conditions share a common pathway, namely hypoxia-associated angiogenesis. The possible mechanism behind this co-occurrence has been pointed to the extracellular vesicle (EV)-associated noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs). EV-ncRNAs exhibit abilities to modulate angiogenesis both in the tumor microenvironment and in stroke. Moreover, EV delivery of ncRNA is expected to become an essential diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic tool. AbstractIschemic stroke and systemic cancer are two of the leading causes of mortality. Hypoxia is a central path...

Intake of marine and plant-derived n-3 fatty acids and development of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease in the Danish Diet, Cancer and Health cohort
CONCLUSIONS: A high intake of marine n-3 PUFA was associated with a lower risk of total ASCVD and acute major ischemic events, whereas no association could be demonstrated for the plant-derived ALA.PMID:36592188 | DOI:10.1007/s00394-022-03081-w
