Interaction between SIRT1 and non-coding RNAs in different disorders
SIRT1 is a member of the sirtuin family functioning in the process of removal of acetyl groups from different proteins. This protein has several biological functions and is involved in the pathogenesis of metabolic diseases, malignancy, aging, neurodegenerative disorders and inflammation. Several long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), microRNAs (miRNAs) and circular RNAs (circRNAs) have been found to interact with SIRT1. These interactions have been assessed in the contexts of sepsis, cardiomyopathy, heart failure, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, chronic hepatitis, cardiac fibrosis, myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury, diab...

Incident cardiovascular events and imaging phenotypes in UK Biobank participants with past cancer
Conclusions Cancer history is linked to increased risk of incident CVDs and adverse cardiac remodelling independent of shared vascular risk factors.

Cost-utility analysis of a supervised exercise intervention for women with early-stage endometrial cancer
ConclusionThis is the first economic evaluation of exercise after treatment for EC. The results suggest that exercise is cost-effective for Australian EC survivors. Given the compelling evidence, efforts could now focus on the implementation of exercise as part of cancer recovery care in Australia.

Cardiovascular Outcomes of Differentiated Thyroid Cancer Patients on Long Term TSH Suppression: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Horm Metab Res 2023; 55: 379-387 DOI: 10.1055/a-2084-3408We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of the literature regarding cardiovascular outcomes of differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) patients who are on long term thyroid stimulating hormone suppression. Searches were carried out using Prisma guidelines in Medline, Embase, CENTRAL, CINAHL and Scopus databases. Eligible papers were those which investigated discrete cardiovascular clinical outcomes in TSH suppressed patients and meta-analysis of selected studies was performed using Revman 5.4.1. We found a total of 195 879 DTC ...

Morbidity and mortality of patients with diabetic neuropathy treated with pathogenetically oriented alpha-lipoic acid versus symptomatic pharmacotherapies - a nationwide database analysis from Hungary
CONCLUSIONS: This retrospective database analysis revealed a lower occurrence of cardio- and cerebrovascular morbidity, cancer events and all-cause mortality in patients with diabetic neuropathy treated with pathogenetically oriented ALA vs symptomatic pharmacotherapies. This hypothesis-generating result requires further investigations.PMID:37257759 | DOI:10.1016/j.diabres.2023.110734

Interpersonal Values of Patients Participating in Phase II –III Clinical Trials: Implications for Clinical Trial Representativeness
ConclusionsThis novel analysis of the interpersonal values of patients that participate in Phase II and III clinical trials revealed that the patients ’ interpersonal values largely differed from those of the Portuguese normative population. Better understanding the implications of these findings for clinical trial representativeness and outcomes is of crucial importance.

The Intersection of Prostate Cancer and Hypertension: a Call to Action
Opinion statementWith improvements in treatment and survival from prostate cancer, comorbid cardiac conditions will significantly impact overall morbidity and mortality from prostate cancer. Hypertension is a well-established cardiovascular risk factor that increases the risk of heart failure, myocardial infarction, and stroke. Therapies used in the treatment of prostate cancer, including GnRH agonists, GnRH antagonists, enzalutamide, abiraterone, and others, can directly or indirectly increase the risk of hypertension. In this paper, we review the evidence available on the incidence and mechanism of hypertension in prosta...

Predicted cardiac and second cancer risks for patients undergoing VMAT for mediastinal Hodgkin lymphoma
ConclusionFor patients with mediastinal lymphoma excess mortality risks from CVD and second cancers remain clinically significant despite contemporary chemotherapy and photon-RT. Efforts to reduce the toxicity of combined modality treatment, for example, using DIBH, reduced margins and advanced RT, e.g. proton beam therapy, should be continued to further reduce potentially fatal treatment effects.

Clinical and Prognostic Relevance of Cardiac Wasting in Patients With Advanced Cancer
CONCLUSIONS: Low LV mass is associated with poor functional status and increased all-cause mortality in cancer. These findings provide clinical evidence of cardiac wasting-associated cardiomyopathy in cancer.PMID:37076211 | DOI:10.1016/j.jacc.2023.02.039
