Career decisions, training priorities, and perceived challenges for anesthesiology residents in the United States
CONCLUSIONS: Most residents identified anesthesiology as their career choice during medical school. Interest in non-traditional subjects and fellowship training was common. Competition from non-physician providers, healthcare system changes, and compromised psychological well-being were perceived concerns.PMID:37290294 | DOI:10.1016/j.jclinane.2023.111155 (Source: Pain Physician)

We present the protocol for a pilot study that aims to develop a minimally invasive intervention and evaluate its feasibility in the primary care setting to improve the identification and management of comorbid MCD in patients with CHD. The study consists of two consecutive parts and will be carried out in Cologne, Germany. Part 1 comprises the development and tailoring of the intervention, which is guided by qualitative interviews with primary care physicians (PCPs, n = 10), patients with CHD and MCD and patient representatives (n = 10). Part II focuses on the implementation and evaluation of the intervention in n = 10 PC...

Becoming a Well-being Advocate
By now, burnout and its related toll on clinicians nationwide are recognized as a pressing crisis. While burnout among U.S. health care practitioners isn’t new, the COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated pre-existing issues and added novel stressors. A recent study showed that burnout, work overload, and COVID-19–associated stressors resulted in one in five physicians and two in five nurses intending to leave their current practice within the next two years.1 In addition to the ample negative impacts on individuals, burnout is a monumental staffing challenge hospital medicine groups must face. Lessons in Redeployment from Adult Hospitalists
Diverse mid-adult nurses, mature adult hospital administrators, and senior adult doctors are standing around a table in a hospital board room. They are reviewing spreadsheets and charts containing financial information for a hospital during a board meeting. Staff is wearing professional clothing, scrubs, and lab coats. As emergency rooms and hospitals are increasingly overwhelmed by pediatric patients with respiratory illnesses, concerns about how the current workforce will care for the influx of patients are increasing, and hospitals are beginning efforts to redeploy physicians.1 During the COVID-19 pandemic, the redepl...

Real world implementation of treat-to-target in patients with ibd in a learning health system: an ibd qorus collaborative study
A treat-to-target (TTT) strategy of aiming for symptomatic and endoscopic remission is recommended for the management of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). Yet, real-world uptake of TTT strategies has been modest.
