Progressive erythrocytosis under lenvatinib treatment in patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma
ConclusionThis report documents the frequent occurrence of erythrocytosis during lenvatinib treatment for advanced HCC, likely secondary to EPO secretion by tumor cells through the antiangiogenic activity levatinib. An early and close monitoring of hematologic parameters is, thus, recommended, together with thromboprophylaxis by low-dose aspirin and phlebotomy in case of symptomatic erythrocytosis. Sensitive SARS-CoV-2 salivary antibody assays for clinical saline gargle samples using smartphone-based competitive particle immunoassay platforms
Biosens Bioelectron. 2023 Mar 12;229:115221. doi: 10.1016/j.bios.2023.115221. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAntibody assay for SARS-CoV-2 has become increasingly important to track latent and asymptomatic infections, check the individual's immune status, and confirm vaccine efficacy and durability. However, current SARS-CoV-2 antibody assays require invasive blood collection, requiring a remote laboratory and a trained phlebotomist. Direct detection of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies from clinical saline gargle samples has been considered challenging due to the smaller number of antibodies in such specimens and the high limit of det...

Ultrasound-guided phlebotomy in primary care for people who inject drugs
Persons who inject drugs (PWID) commonly experience venous degradation as a complication of prolonged injection, which makes routine phlebotomy difficult. Clients may decline care due to the perceived lack of ... (Source: Harm Reduction Journal)

Clinical pathway of COVID-19 patients in primary health care in 30 European countries: Eurodata study
CONCLUSION: In Europe PHC participated in many steps to diagnose, treat and monitor COVID-19 patients. Differences among countries might be addressed at European level for the management of future pandemics.PMID:36943232 | DOI:10.1080/13814788.2023.2182879 (Source: European Journal of General Practice)

Characterization of COVID-19 Vaccine Hesitancy Among Essential Workforce Members of a Large Safety Net Urban Medical Center
CONCLUSIONS: Among a racially/ethnically diverse group of safety net medical center essential workers, COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy was associated with racial/ethnic minority groups, employment type, and prior influenza vaccination hesitancy. Interestingly, we found no association with the Health Belief Model construct measures of perceived susceptibility, threat, and self-efficacy. Psychological constructs not assessed may be drivers of vaccine hesitancy in our population.PMID:36941757 | DOI:10.1177/21501319231159814 (Source: Primary Care)
