Evaluation of the effect of managing oxycodone/acetaminophen as a psychotropic medicine: An interrupted time-series study
Conclusion: Implementation of stricter management for oxycodone/acetaminophen achieved its goal of reducing the risk of misuse in short-term drug users. For those long-term drug users, policy needed to be strengthened as the prescription exceeding 10 days was still at a high level after the intervention. Policies targeting patients with different drug demands are needed. Many other strategies can be implemented, including establishing specific guidelines/principles and conducting training programs. Effectiveness of Oxycodone Hydrochloride vs. Combination Acetaminophen and Codeine for Subacute Pain After Fractures Managed Surgically: A Randomized Controlled Trial
Clinical question: Do less potent opioids suffice for adequate pain control for patients with surgically managed fractures? Background: For post-surgical pain management at time of discharge, hospitalists try to balance the analgesic effects of opioid therapy with the risks of dependency and overdose. Data on optimal discharge opioid dosing for adult patients who have undergone surgical management of fracture are currently limited. Study design: Double-blind, randomized controlled trial Setting: Trauma hospital in Sydney, Australia Synopsis: Adult patients who had sustained non-pathological fractures of a long bone (e.g., ...

Minimizing opioids after gender affirming orchiectomy - a multimodal pain pathway
CONCLUSION: Most patients achieved adequate postoperative pain control as requests for additional narcotic prescriptions were low. Almost half of patients used < 4 tablets, and all patients employed at least one alternative non-narcotic analgesic. Based on these findings, we plan to decrease the quantity of opioids on discharge.PMID:36779947 (Source: Canadian Journal of Urology)
