Malignant external otitis complicated by spinal cord compression: Case report
CONCLUSION: OEM is an infection occurring in elderly and diabetic patients. Imaging allows to confirm the diagnosis and to carry out the assessment of extension; but also has a great interest in the follow-up of these immunocompromised patients who are subject to complications with insidious evolution.PMID:36389183 | PMC:PMC9661676 | DOI:10.1016/j.amsu.2022.104775 (Source: Annals of Medicine)

The stability and in vitro antibacterial efficacy of enrofloxacin and gentamicin solutions against Staphylococcus pseudintermedius over 28  days
CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Solutions of 1% enrofloxacin and 0.3% gentamicin in normal saline with 0.1% dexamethasone maintained chemical stability and bactericidal efficacy over 28 days. These solutions can be considered as alternatives to commercial preparations for treatment of canine OE when indicated.PMID:36221863 | DOI:10.1111/vde.13131 (Source: Veterinary Dermatology)

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy : Selected indications in the discipline of otorhinolaryngology
HNO. 2022 Sep 29. doi: 10.1007/s00106-022-01227-0. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHyperbaric oxygenation (HBO) represents the controlled exposure to positive pressure with simultaneous inhalation of pure oxygen. It is considered to be an effective treatment option for diseases with restricted blood flow as oxygen not only binds chemically to hemoglobin but also physically dissolves in blood plasma. With the help of a hyperbaric chamber the ambient pressure of a patient can be modified and the physiological characteristics in positive pressure can be medically used. The indications relevant to otorhinolaryngology are necroti...

Infections in people with diabetes
People with diabetes mellitus have an increased risk of many common infections, such as urinary tract infections, lower respiratory tract infections and skin/soft tissue infections. This is caused by a combination of systemic and local host factors, and also specific organism characteristics. Individuals with diabetes mellitus also tend to acquire more complex infections, such as emphysematous cholecystitis and emphysematous pyelonephritis. Some conditions, such as malignant otitis externa and rhinocerebral mucormycosis, occur almost exclusively in people with diabetes. (Source: Medicine)
