Mangrove forest decline on Iran ’s Gulf coast | Science
Iran ’s mangrove forests, which cover about 9370 ha along the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman, are home to distinct species (1–3), store carbon (1, 2), purify water (4), and support coastal communities (1). However, these forests face threats from human activities and climate change (5). Iran must p rotect its mangrove forests (1). (Source: Science: Current Issue)

Sanjad-Sakati Syndrome in a 35-day-old Iraqi Infant: A Case Report
Oman Med J. 2024 Jan 31;39(1):e600. doi: 10.5001/omj.2024.09. eCollection 2024 Jan.ABSTRACTSanjad-Sakati syndrome is a rare autosomal recessive genetic disorder that presents solely in Arabian people. Our case was reported from the Fallujah Teaching Hospital for Women and Children in Fallujah, Iraq. This syndrome is associated with hypoparathyroidism, growth retardation, atypical facial appearance, and a variable degree of mental retardation. It is usually caused by genetic mutations of the tubulin-folding cofactor E (TBCE; 604934), which is located on the 1q42.3 chromosome. This case was confirmed by a genetic study which...

Ramsay Hunt Syndrome Associated with Varicella-Zoster Virus Encephalitis in a Child
We report the case of an 8-year-old previously healthy boy who presented to a tertiary care hospital in Muscat, Oman in 2021 with fever, progressive left ear pain, vesicular rash around his ear pinna and left-sided facial nerve palsy. His course was complicated by VZV encephalitis where he was managed with intravenous (IV) acyclovir and IV corticosteroids. He improved significantly and was asymptomatic with a normal neurology examination at the 6-months follow-up.PMID:38434459 | PMC:PMC10906755 | DOI:10.18295/squmj.3.2023.020 (Source: Herpes)

Simulation and feasibility assessment of a green hydrogen supply chain: a case study in Oman
This study addresses this imperative by simulating a green hydrogen supply chain tailored for residential cooking in Oman. The supply chain encompasses solar energy production, underground storage, pipeline transportation, and residential application, aiming to curtail greenhouse gas emissions and reduce the levelized cost of hydrogen (LCOH). The simulation results suggest leveraging a robust 7 GW solar plant. Oman achieves an impressive annual production of 9.78 TWh of green hydrogen, equivalent to 147,808 tonnes of H2, perfectly aligning with the ambitious goals of Oman Vision 2040. The overall LCOH for the green hydroge...
