A comparative study of tobacco control scale score in the Eastern Mediterranean Region countries
CONCLUSION: Tobacco control policies have been implemented and improved in most EMR countries, but there is room for further improvement. Tobacco pricing and taxation, national tobacco control program budgets, and cessation treatments require more attention.PMID:38279865 | DOI:10.26719/emhj.23.120 (Source: Eastern Mediterranean Health Journal)

Computed-tomography evaluation of parietal foramen topography in adults: a retrospective analysis
ConclusionThe present study for the first time reports the baseline data of PF topography in a large sample of CT scans in the Arab population. The geography and race influence the PF topography differences. PF may be used as a reliable landmark of SSS. The morphological characteristics and distribution of PF reported in this study have clinical implications for imaging diagnosis, intracranial navigation of vascular disorders, and treatment. COVID-19 Associated Acute Viral Myocarditis and Thyroid Gland Follicular Neoplasm in a Hemodialysis Patient
We report a case of atypical manifestation of COVID-19-induced acute myocarditis and thyroid gland follicular neoplasm in a hemodialysis patient with no respiratory symptoms. This case illustrates that COVID-19 can present atypically and affect non-respiratory organ systems.PMID:38274949 | PMC:PMC10808995 | DOI:10.5001/omj.2023.75 (Source: Oman Medical Journal)

Rare Congenital Dissecting Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm in a Child with Noonan Syndrome: A Case Report
We present a rare case of congenital thoracic aortic aneurysm (TAA) complicated with dissection in a nine-year-old girl with Noonan syndrome and atrial septal defect. She presented with rapid breathing and upper respiratory tract symptoms. Chest X-ray revealed a huge upper mediastinum with cardiomegaly. Echocardiogram showed possible ascending TAA. Computerized tomography angiogram of the aorta revealed huge aortic root-ascending TAA with small aortic dissection. Despite immediate treatment, the patient passed away due to severe airway compromise.PMID:38269208 | PMC:PMC10806284 | DOI:10.5001/omj.2023.66 (Source: Oman Medical Journal)

What do environment-related illnesses tell us about the character of military medicine and future clinical requirements?
Extreme environments present medical and occupational challenges that extend beyond generic resuscitation, to formulating bespoke diagnoses and prognoses and embarking on management pathways rarely encountered in civilian practice. Pathophysiological complexity and clinical uncertainty call for military physicians of all kinds to balance intuition with pragmatism, adapting according to the predominant patterns of care required. In an era of smaller operational footprints and less concentrated clinical experience, proposals aimed at improving the systematic care of Service Personnel incapacitated at environmental extremes m...

Pityriasis Rosea and Pityriasis Rosea-like Eruption Following COVID-19 Vaccinations: Case Series from Oman
Oman Med J. 2023 Nov 30;38(6):e579. doi: 10.5001/omj.2024.01. eCollection 2023 Nov.ABSTRACTTo mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, several vaccines have been developed and administered to the public since 2021. A spectrum of cutaneous reactions has been reported among some of the vaccinated individuals. In this case series, we describe three cases of pityriasis rosea and pityriasis rosea-like eruption that manifested after COVID-19 vaccinations, which might suggest the vaccines as a possible trigger.PMID:38264510 | PMC:PMC10801697 | DOI:10.5001/omj.2024.01 (Source: Oman Medical Journal)
