5 June 2018 – Within a week, 2 record-setting tropical cyclones that formed in the Gulf of Aden made landfall, wreaking widespread havoc in Somalia, Oman and Yemen. 28 May 2018 Geneva – The World Health Organization’s Executive Board, currently holding its 143rd session in Geneva, has appointed Dr Ahmed Al-Mandhari of Oman as WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean, following his nomination by a special session of the Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean on 19 May, 2018. Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) – United Arab Emirates
On 11 December 2017, the National IHR Focal Point of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) reported one additional case of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) infection. Detailed information concerning the case reported, a 39-year-old male residing in Hemma Region, Oman can be found in a separate document (see link below). The case is currently asymptomatic, is in home isolation in Oman, and is being monitored for the development of symptoms.
