Evaluating Outcomes in Trauma After Medicaid Expansion Under The Affordable Care Act
More than 8 years ago, President Obama signed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act into law. It is arguably one of the most important pieces of legislation of his administration. As a result of optional Medicaid expansion under the Affordable Care Act, millions of Americans in 32 participating states and the District of Columbia have gained access to affordable and high-quality health insurance. Such an opportunity...

Respecting Context to Protect Privacy: Why Meaning Matters
AbstractIn February 2012, the Obama White House endorsed a Privacy Bill of Rights, comprising seven principles. The third, “Respect for Context,” is explained as the expectation that “companies will collect, use, and disclose personal data in ways that are consistent with the context in which consumers provide the data.” One can anticipate the contested interpretations of this principle as parties representing d iverse interests vie to make theirs the authoritative one. Universal coverage reforms in the USA: From Obamacare through Trump
Since the election of Donald Trump as President, momentum towards universal health care coverage in the United States has stalled. Most notable was the repeal of the individual mandate to purchase health insurance in late December 2017. However, outright repeal of President Obama ’s signature piece of legislation – the Affordable Care Act (ACA) – has not yet come to pass. Though the Republican Party controls the Presidency and both Houses of Congress, attempts at wholesale repeal and replacement of the ACA during the summer and early fall of 2017 failed.
