Cancers, Vol. 15, Pages 1031: Identification of T Cell Receptors Targeting a Neoantigen Derived from Recurrently Mutated FGFR3
In this study, we screened "shared neoantigens", which are specific types of neoantigens derived from mutations observed commonly in a subset of cancer patients. Using exome sequencing data in the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), we predicted shared neoantigen peptides and performed in vitro screening of shared neoantigen-reactive CD8+ T cells using peripheral blood from healthy donors. We examined the functional activity of neoantigen-specific T cell receptors (TCRs) by generating TCR-engineered T cells. Among the predicted shared neoantigens from TCGA data, we found that the mutated FGFR3Y373C peptide induce...

How living in economically unequal societies shapes our minds and our social lives
Br J Psychol. 2023 Jan 27. doi: 10.1111/bjop.12632. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn recent decades, the economies of many countries have produced increasingly unequal outcomes for the rich and poor. This economic trend has attracted interest from members of the media, public and political classes as well as researchers who are interested in its societal implications. While this research has traditionally been the purview of economists and sociologists, there has been a burgeoning growth in research that has sought to understand the psychology of economic inequality. In this review, we summarize this work, focusing on two ...

Clarify jurisdiction of US Clean Water Act | Science
On 3 October 2022, the US Supreme Court heard arguments in Sackett v. USEPA, the latest in a series of cases seeking to clarify which waters are protected under the US Clean Water Act (1). Concurrently, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the US Army Corps of Engineers are actively drafting rules for the third time in the past 10 years, after the Obama-era Clean Water Rule (2) was repealed (3) and the Trump-era Navigable Waters Protection Rule (4) was vacated and remanded (5). Consequently, enforcement of the Clean Water Act has reverted to 1986 agency guidance (6). Although scientific understanding of the phy...

A large ‐scale targeted proteomics of plasma extracellular vesicles shows utility for prognosis prediction subtyping in colorectal cancer
ConclusionsThe study identified two novel subtypes of CRC, which exhibit differences in OS, as well as important biomarker proteins that are closely related to the identified subtypes. Liquid biopsy assessment with targeted proteomics analysis was proposed to be crucial for predicting the CRC prognosis. (Source: Cancer Medicine)

Building Evidence for Clinical Use of Pharmacogenomics and Reimbursement for Testing
In his 2015 State of the Union Address, former President Obama announced the Precision Medicine Initiative signaling continued United States government support toward individualized disease detection, prevention, and management strategies 1. Pharmacogenomics is one component of precision medicine and promises to optimize drug therapy through the incorporation of  an individual’s genetic information in drug prescribing decisions. Genotype specifically influences pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics and allows for prediction of risk for adverse drug effects and likelihood of drug effectiveness. Introducing AI to the molecular tumor board: one direction toward the establishment of precision medicine using large-scale cancer clinical and biological information
AbstractSince U.S. President Barack Obama announced the Precision Medicine Initiative in his New Year ’s State of the Union address in 2015, the establishment of a precision medicine system has been emphasized worldwide, particularly in the field of oncology. With the advent of next-generation sequencers specifically, genome analysis technology has made remarkable progress, and there are active ef forts to apply genome information to diagnosis and treatment. Generally, in the process of feeding back the results of next-generation sequencing analysis to patients, a molecular tumor board (MTB), consisting of experts in cli...

NIH ’s BRAIN Initiative puts $500 million into creating most detailed ever human brain atlas
The BRAIN Initiative, the 9-year-old, multibillion-dollar U.S. neuroscience effort, today announced its most ambitious challenge yet: compiling the world’s most comprehensive map of cells in the human brain. Scientists say the BRAIN Initiative Cell Atlas Network (BICAN), funded with $500 million over 5 years, will help them understand how the human brain works and how diseases affect it. BICAN “will transform the way we do neuroscience research for generations to come,” says BRAIN Initiative Director John Ngai of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). BRAIN, or Brain Research Through Advancing Innovativ...

Personalized Treatment Strategies Effective in Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Do Not Rely on Genomics in 2022: A Different Tale of Precision Medicine
In his 2015 State of the Union Address, President Barack Obama launched a novel proposal for precision medicine1,2 to treat, prevent, and cure chronic diseases, such as cancer,3 –6 cystic fibrosis,7 and chronic myelogenous leukemia,4 employing strategies that account for patient variability and discard the traditional broad category “one-size-fits-all”. In principle, this personalized approach promotes targeted diagnosis and therapeutics by integrating information fro m multiple sources, including digital health analytics, proteomics, imaging, and genomics. White House requires immediate public access to all U.S.-funded research papers by 2025
A decadeslong battle over how best to provide public access to the fruits of research funded by the U.S. government has taken a major turn. President Joe Biden’s administration announced yesterday that, by the end of 2025, federal agencies must make papers that describe taxpayer-funded work freely available to the public as soon as the final peer-reviewed manuscript is published. Data underlying those publications must also be made freely available “without delay.” Many details of the new policy , including exactly how the government will fund immediate public access, remain to be deci...
