Smoothies can be a smart food choice any time of day. They make a quick and healthy meal when you’re pinched for time. They’re great for exercise recovery because they have carbohydrates and protein. They’re an easy way to get more fruits and vegetables, which are packed with vitamins and minerals to give you energy. My favorite smoothie is “green” – super simple. Just add frozen banana, spinach, and protein powder to a blender. Toss in a little ice and push GO! But your smoothie can be any color of the rainbow. So get creative. New Year, New Me…The Cleanse.
So, I decided to join the New Year, New Me bandwagon for 2013. Yea, yea I know, I am one of those people now. Listen, after having a baby (a 10 pound 13oz baby I may add) you want your body back, and will pretty much starve yourself to get it. Instead of starving myself which isn’t good for me, or the people in my family (enter: cat claws)  I decided to do a health cleanse. I really want to be as healthy as I can for my new growing family! But, I am not doing it alone, I elected my husband to do it with me, (not sure exactly how he felt about that haha) We both got pleasantly plump over the last 9 months…So, yep w...

Collagenta Serum: Skin Savior or Scam?
Mdh must know…Apologies if this has already been discussed (couldn’t find a topic), but I stumbled across a free trial for Collagenta and wondered if the Beauty Brains had reviewed this product? The Beauty Brains respond: Collagenta is a mail order product line from London-based DS Marketing Ltd, the same company that markets the Dead Sea Minerals collection. Their Active Collagen Serum, which retails for $149 for what appears to be a 2 ounce container,   seems to be the one offered in the free trial so let’s take a look at the key claims and the ingredients. Collagenta Serum Claims Regular use of Col...

Does taking supplements help IVF patients ?
Practically all women doing IVF are taking supplements of one sort or another ! These are supposed to improve egg yield, egg quality and embryo implantation , thus helping to improve IVF pregnancy rates.  I have come across women who take over 10 different supplements daily – and I wonder how they manage to swallow so many different tablets, syrups and capsules in a day ! On second thoughts thought,  it is not surprising , because the craving for a baby can make a woman move heaven and earth; which means taking umpteen supplements is not such a difficult task to accomplish. I have heard the following qu...

Don't Put All The Blame On Hormones - Gluten Can Shorten Your Sex Life, Too
Even though it is believed that with menopause and andropause comes a loss of libido, fertility and sex drive, it has been always assumed that the reason is due to a change in hormones. However, a recent study is claiming that it may not be the only reason, and that gluten, once again, is the culprit for our failing health! (1,2). Moreover, the problem starts long time before menopause hits.  This problem affects the whole reproductive life of a woman, leading to miscarriages and premature birth.  This problem makes menopause more severe than in healthy women.  But what is it? What is this unknown enemy that can make su...

The Sandy Hook Massacre. Could it have been prevented?
Nobody wants to be killed by a crazy gunman.  But the same disease the crazy gunman had might be inside of you and killing you silently. December 14, 2012, Sandy Hook Elementary School, Connecticut.  20 year old Adam Lanza came into the school building and started shooting.  He brutally killed 20 children and 6 adults.  Earlier, he killed his mother.  As soon as responders arrived, he killed himself. December 24, 2012, Webster, NY.  William Spengler set fire his house and started shooting when firefighters arrived.  Result:  2 firefighters killed.  Then he killed himself. December 27, 2012, Queens, NY. A middle-ag...

10 Things You Can Give Up in 2013
With the new year rapidly approaching, I wanted to compile a list of my top 10 things that I think you should give up in 2013. Take a look and see how many you can cross off your list next year! 1. Guilt I’ve blogged about food guilt in the past, and still feel that this is something worth mentioning as we move into 2013. Many times the guilt associated with food comes from the food policing that I mention below. It creates a cycle of restriction/avoidance of food, overeating, guilt, and restriction again. The only way to break the cycle is to give yourself permission to enjoy foods you love without guilt or shame. 2...

FDA warns consumers to discard Zicam products
In an unusual move earlier this week, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) alerted consumers that Zicam Cold Remedy products have been associated with long lasting or even permanent loss of smell. FDA recommends that consumers stop using these products and that they throw away any that might still be in their homes. The affected products include Zicam Cold Remedy Nasal Gel, Zicam Cold Remedy Nasal Swabs, and Zicam Cold Remedy Swabs, Kids Size (the last one is a previously discontinued product). The products had been sold by Matrixx Initiatives to reduce the duration and severity of cold symptoms; however, they have never...
