Cost-effectiveness analysis of different anesthesia strategies for transperineal MRI/US fusion prostate biopsy
This study aims to conduct a cost-effectiveness analysis of three different anesthesia strategies, namely chatting while under local anesthesia (Chat-LA), total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA), and general anesthesia with laryngeal mask airway (GA-LMA), employed in transperineal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)/ultrasound (US) fusion prostate biopsy (TP-MUF-PB). A retrospective study was conducted involving 1202 patients who underwent TP-MUF-PB from June 2016 to April 2023 at The First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University (Suzhou, China). Clinical data and outcomes, including total costs, complications, and quality-adju...

How should one intervene when a foreign body is blocking a child's oral cavity?
CONCLUSION: Foreign bodies in the oral cavity can cause serious complications, including injury, bleeding and sudden airway obstruction. Experienced healthcare professionals, especially those skilled in airway management, should handle these cases using a multidisciplinary approach to ensure respiratory safety.Abbreviations: LMA: laryngeal mask airway; PED: paediatric emergency department.PMID:38334132 | DOI:10.1080/20469047.2024.2313298 (Source: Paediatrics and international child health)

Effective dose of propofol combined with intravenous esketamine for smooth flexible laryngeal mask airway insertion in two distinct age groups of preschool children
There is limited research on the combined use of propofol and esketamine for anesthesia induction during flexible laryngeal mask airway (FLMA) in pediatric patients, and the effective dosage of propofol for FL... (Source: BMC Anesthesiology)

Laryngeal mask airway surfactant administration for prevention of morbidity and mortality in preterm infants with or at risk of respiratory distress syndrome
CONCLUSIONS: In preterm infants less than 36 weeks' PMA, rescue S-LMA may have little or no effect on the composite outcome of death or BPD at 36 weeks' PMA. However, it may reduce the need for mechanical ventilation at any time. This benefit is limited to trials reporting the use of analgesia or sedation in the InSurE and S-ETT groups. There is low- to very-low certainty evidence for no or little difference in neonatal morbidities and mortality. Long-term outcomes are largely unreported. In preterm infants less than 32 weeks' PMA or less than 1500 g, there are insufficient data to support or refute the use of S-LMA in cli...

Comparison of lidocaine viscous gargle and topical application on laryngeal mask airway in general anesthesia: A randomized clinical trial
CONCLUSION: Lidocaine viscous gargle showed no statistically significant difference in incidence of POST and incidence of pharynx dryness compared with topical application of lidocaine on the LMA. Both approaches were safe for patients receiving LMA.Chinese Clinical Trial Register No.: ChiCTR2200059720.PMID:38220237 | PMC:PMC10807662 | DOI:10.15537/smj.2024.45.1.20230368 (Source: Saudi Medical Journal)

I-gel ® as airways management in a challenging adult tracheobronchial foreign body aspiration
AbstractTracheobronchial foreign body (TFB) aspiration is an uncommon but potentially life-threatening event. This case report discusses the successful extraction of a metallic screw aspirated by a 48-year-old woman with intellectual disability, using flexible bronchoscopy through the i-gel ® laryngeal mask under general anesthesia. The i-gel® device proved effective in maintaining airway access and facilitating bronchoscopy, emphasizing its utility in challenging cases. The report underscores the significance of careful assessment, skillful intervention, and multidisciplinary teamwo rk in managing TFB aspirations, espec...

Anesthesia and Surgery of the Trachea
This article aims to review the current anaesthetic management of tracheal resections.Apart from the "traditional" approach of induction of general anaesthesia with conventional tracheal intubation and cross-field intubation or jet ventilation during the resection phase, there has lately been a trend towards less invasive techniques.Regional anaesthesia, laryngeal mask airways and preservation of spontaneous ventilation are among the new anaesthetic approaches. Current data suggest potential advantages compared with conventional tracheal intubation.Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation may provide adequate gas exchange and/o...
