Perennial Existence of Organochlorine Pesticides in the Soils of Amghara, Kuwait
Bull Environ Contam Toxicol. 2023 Jul 18;111(2):17. doi: 10.1007/s00128-023-03763-z.ABSTRACTA comprehensive study from the surface soil samples of 14 locations from Amghara, Kuwait were assessed for the investigation of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs). There is limited information regarding the distribution pattern of OCPs in the soil samples of Kuwait. The total concentration of OCPs was in the range of 209.39 pg/g -7449.18 pg/g with an average value of 1313.04 pg/g. DDT had higher concentrations in soil samples (969.52 pg/g) than the other pesticides, according to the findings. The distribution pattern of OCPs in the Am...

Evaluating von Willebrand factor and ADAMTS13 levels in thalassemia major patients and assessing a possible association with Thrombospondin-1
CONCLUSION: Our findings highlight the adequacy of patient management protocols for β-TM in Kuwait as patients presented with comparable levels of platelets, vWF and TSP-1 compared to normal controls. The reported increase in ADAMTS13 in patients may be required to maintain normal levels of vWF. Although no active thrombotic episodes were reported at the time of the study, the significant rise in platelets, vWF:Ag and TSP-1 levels in splenectomised patients may indicate a tendency towards hypercoagulability. Monitoring of splenectomised patients is recommended.PMID:37438087 | DOI:10.1111/ijlh.14135 (Source: International ...

Narrative Review of the Epidemiology of Hospital-Acquired Pneumonia and Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia in Gulf Cooperation Council Countries
AbstractHospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP) and ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) are the most common healthcare-associated infections, with rates varying between countries. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) among common HAP/VAP pathogens has been reported, and multidrug resistance (MDR) is of further concern across Middle Eastern countries. This narrative review summarizes the incidence and pathogens associated with HAP/VAP in hospitals across Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. A PubMed literature search was limited to available data on HAP or VAP in patients of any age published within the past 10  years. Reviews,...

IJERPH, Vol. 20, Pages 6241: Intimate Partner Violence in Khaliji Women: A Review of the Frequency and Related Factors
ty Samir Al-Adawi The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), locally known as Khaliji, is a group of six Arab nations, including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a significant public health concern in the aforementioned region, but research that synthesises this trend has remained scarce. The present narrative review examines existing research on the prevalence and frequency of IPV among Khaliji women who inhabit the GCC nations. This review synthesised studies on physical and sexual violence, emotional abuse, and controlling behaviours perpet...

The Effect of Age and Task Complexity on the Microstructure of Child Arabic Narratives
CONCLUSION: Clinical recommendations include adapting the coding scheme to fit Arabic data, using the more complex narrative alone for microstructure analysis, and calculating only a few measures for productivity and syntactic complexity to save time.PMID:37314880 | DOI:10.1044/2023_LSHSS-22-00091 (Source: Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools)
