The objective of this study was to determine the concentration of some heavy metals (Fe, Cu, Mn, Cr, Cd, Ni and Pb) in agricultural soils and in maize plants, and their potential toxic effects on this plant through some sensitive biochemical and molecular markers. Diagnostic Accuracy of Biomarkers and International Ovarian Tumor Analysis Simple Rules in Diagnosis of Ovarian Cancer
This study investigated whether combining International Ovarian Tumor Analysis (IOTA) Simple Rules with tumor biomarkers would improve the diagnostic accuracy for early detection of adnexal malignancies. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis of suspected adnexal tumors was performed in 226 women admitted for surgery at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo. Hantavirus Infections among Military Forces
CONCLUSIONS: Military maneuvers usually include soil removal, spreading, digging with accompanied dust, and living in field and other harsh conditions, which easily expose soldiers to rodents and their excreta. Therefore, the risks of hantavirus infections in military context are obvious. Case study from Kosovo - repetitive COVID-19 infection and pregnancy
A 25-year-old woman, gravida 2, with no medical history of cardiovascular nor other chronic diseases, came to the gynaecologist and described symptoms of a flu-like disease, including very high fever. The gyneacologist prescribed her antibiotics and paracetamol to calm down the fever. At 37 week of gestation she was admitted to the provincial COVID-19 treatment center for isolation and health care in University Clinical Center of Kosovo in Gynecology/Obstetrics department. Clozapine prescription rates in Southeast Europe: A cross-sectional study
DiscussionOur findings suggested that clozapine prescription rate in SEE outpatients is higher than in Western Europe. The average dose is significantly below the optimal therapeutic dosage recommended by clinical guidelines, and clozapine polytherapy is common. This might indicate that clozapine is prescribed mainly for its sedative effect rather than antipsychotic. We hope that this finding will be taken up by relevant stakeholders to address this non-evidence-based practice. (Source: Frontiers in Psychiatry)
