Generation of human antibodies targeting human platelet antigen (HPA)-1a
This study aimed to isolate HPA-1a-specific B-cells from an HPA-1a-alloimmunized pregnant woman. Using fluorescently labeled HPA-1a-positive platelets, single B-cells were sorted and cultured for 10 days to stimulate antibody production. Subsequently, supernatants were tested for the presence of antibodies by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and their reactivity towards HPA-1a-positive platelets. Amplification and sequencing of variable regions allowed the generation of monoclonal antibodies using a HEK-Freestyle-based expression system.RESULTS: Three platelet-specific B-cells were obtained and cloned of which two were sp...

Blood donation and migraine relief: A national population cohort study in Denmark
DISCUSSION: Our findings do not support the hypothesis that blood donation serves as a viable treatment strategy among migraine patients. Future prospective investigations may help to elucidate the underlying biological mechanisms by which blood donation may influence migraine pathology.PMID:38400775 | DOI:10.1111/trf.17770 (Source: Transfusion)

Classification of posttransfusion adverse events using a publicly available artificial intelligence system
DISCUSSION: A generative AI system may have a role in helping healthcare providers to consider transfusion reaction categories that might be missed, but caution is advised in applying the AI's output to transfusion reaction classification at present.PMID:38400777 | DOI:10.1111/trf.17702 (Source: Transfusion)

Functional effects of an African glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) polymorphism (Val68Met) on red blood cell hemolytic propensity and post-transfusion recovery
DISCUSSION: This novel mouse model of the common G6PD A- variant has impaired antioxidant capacity like humans and low G6PD activity may reduce survival of transfused RBCs when irradiation is performed.PMID:38400625 | DOI:10.1111/trf.17756 (Source: Transfusion)

Autoantibody profiles in intravenous immunoglobulin preparations: A possible cause of mistaken autoimmunity diagnosis
DISCUSSION: To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study that analyzed multiple autoantibody profiles in both pooled plasma and IVIg products and that further evaluated their potential influences on diagnosis of autoimmunity. Clinicians should keep in mind that IVIgs contain several autoantibodies and that their infusion can produce false-positive serology results. To establish an accurate diagnosis, serological tests must be carefully interpreted and clinical symptoms should be more purposefully considered if patients are receiving IVIg therapy.PMID:38400628 | DOI:10.1111/trf.17766 (Source: Transfusion)

The T ägerwilen II report: Recommendations from the NATO Prehospital Care Improvement Initiative Task Force
CONCLUSION: The recommendations on these four themes reflect the most significant priorities in improving prehospital care, and must be incorporated in the on-going revision of NATO doctrine.PMID:38400632 | DOI:10.1111/trf.17760 (Source: Transfusion)
