In vitro evaluation of a new viscoelastometry-based point-of-care analyzer
CONCLUSION: The VCM analyzer is a reliable, easy-to-use instrument that correlates well with the TEG5000. Despite some logistical constraints, the results suggest that it can be used in austere environments. Further studies are required before its implementation.PMID:38566492 | DOI:10.1111/trf.17808 (Source: Transfusion)

Consideration for alpha-gal syndrome in two critically ill persons with group O blood who received group B plasma
CONCLUSION: Two patients with O-positive blood and no known allergies experience danaphyl axis after transfusion with group B FFP. The symptoms cannot definitively be imputed to an allergic transfusion reaction, but the presence of IgE against alpha-gal supports an association. Medicating patients with antihistamines and IV steroids pre-transfusion may prevent allergic reactions. Restricting group B plasma-containing products (plasma, platelets, cryoprecipitate) for patients who experience AGS-like symptoms may be considered.PMID:38566573 | DOI:10.1111/trf.17811 (Source: Transfusion)

A novel frameshift mutation in RHAG leads to Rh < sub > null < /sub > phenotype in a Chinese individual
CONCLUSION: We identified a novel RHAG mutation resulting in the Rhnull phenotype of the regulator type. Inheritance of the novel allele was shown by family study.PMID:38562113 | DOI:10.1111/trf.17817 (Source: Transfusion)

Receipt of RhD-positive whole blood for life-threatening bleeding in female children: A survey in alloimmunized mothers regarding minimum acceptable survival benefit relative to risk of maternal alloimmunization to anti-D
CONCLUSION: Alloimmunized mothers would accept the risk of D-alloimmunization in a RhD-negative female child for improved survival in cases of life-threatening bleeding.PMID:38563495 | DOI:10.1111/trf.17807 (Source: Transfusion)

A prospective, pragmatic non-inferiority study of emergency intubation success with the single-use i-view versus standard reusable video laryngoscope
CONCLUSIONS: The i-view device failed to meet our predetermined non-inferiority margin when compared to the reusable VL systems with the study stopping early due to futility. Significant crossover occurred at the discretion of the intubating operator during the i-view month.PMID:38545924 | DOI:10.1111/trf.17790 (Source: Transfusion)
