Firearm carrying and adolescent suicide risk outcomes between 2015 and 2021 across nationally representative samples
CONCLUSIONS: Carrying a firearm is associated with significant increases in the risk of suicidal ideation and behaviors among youth and this risk has increased between 2015 and 2021. Implications for youth suicide prevention and directions for future research are discussed.PMID:38223934 | DOI:10.1111/sltb.13042 (Source: Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior)

Meaning in life mediates the association between depressive symptoms and future frequency of suicidal ideation in Spanish university students: A longitudinal study
DISCUSSION: There is a high prevalence of suicidal ideation among Spanish university students, and it is associated with depressive symptoms and meaning in life, with the latter acting as a protective factor. Thus, psychotherapeutic prevention programs from a logotherapeutic perspective could help to reduce students' suicide risk.PMID:38223979 | DOI:10.1111/sltb.13040 (Source: Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior)

A profound absence of counseling interventions for suicide prevention among youth in Africa: A call to action based on an empty scoping review
CONCLUSIONS: This empty review highlights the striking absence of published research on a life-threatening public health challenge, representing a distinct call to action for improved efforts in adolescent suicide prevention in Africa.PMID:38214345 | DOI:10.1111/sltb.13041 (Source: Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior)

Accounting for diversity in the treatment of suicide and self-injury: A systematic review of the past 50  years of randomized controlled trials
CONCLUSIONS: There has not been substantial improvement in reporting practices, sample representativeness, or inclusion of global populations in SITB RCTs over the past 50 years. Acknowledging who is being studied and representing diverse populations in SITB treatment research is key to connecting research advances with those who may need it most.PMID:38193589 | DOI:10.1111/sltb.13037 (Source: Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior)

Relations between discrimination, rejection sensitivity, negative affect, and decrements in problem-solving ability following social rejection: An experimental investigation
CONCLUSION: Addressing rejection sensitivity and sources of discrimination within the context of treatment may reduce the impact of social rejection on problem-solving abilities among young adults at risk for suicide.PMID:38180127 | DOI:10.1111/sltb.13036 (Source: Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior)

Exploring the link between the increase in high-rise buildings and youth jumping suicide in Taiwan: A longitudinal study
CONCLUSION: Despite the rising trend in youth suicides by jumping over the past 11 years, our study refutes the intuitive notion that the increase in high-rise buildings contributes to this trend. It is imperative to identify and address other potential factors, such as academic stress and/or family disruptions, for effective prevention of youth suicide.PMID:38174787 | DOI:10.1111/sltb.13030 (Source: Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior)
