Predictors of non-fatal suicide attempts among Veterans Health Administration (VHA) patients who experienced military sexual trauma
CONCLUSIONS: Among VHA patients who experienced MST, specific mental health conditions may increase risk of NFSAs, even after adjustment for overall mental health morbidity. Additionally, indicators of severity of mental health difficulties such as receipt of psychotropic medication prescriptions and inpatient psychiatric admissions are also associated with increased risk above and beyond risk associated with diagnoses. Findings highlight targets for suicide prevention initiatives among this vulnerable group within VHA and may help identify patients who would benefit from additional support.PMID:38421037 | DOI:10.1111/sltb...

Fearlessness about death and suicidal ideation: Religious identity matters
CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that fearlessness about death is a risk factor for suicidal ideation, but only among those who do not identify as religious. Results from this study inform theories of suicide and elucidate the influence of religious identity on links among suicide risk factors and suicide-related outcomes.PMID:38414307 | DOI:10.1111/sltb.13069 (Source: Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior)

Examining the relationship between suicide ideation frequency and intergenerational acculturative conflict between Mexican descent college students and their caregivers using the interpersonal theory of suicide
CONCLUSIONS: These findings advance our understanding of how sociocultural constructs, such as IAC, influence the IPTS and future advancements in culturally responsive treatments for suicide.PMID:38414324 | DOI:10.1111/sltb.13067 (Source: Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior)

Examining the relationship between subtypes of rumination and non-suicidal self-injury: A meta-analytic review
CONCLUSION: Results of this study support the relationships between rumination subtypes and NSSI and identify factors that may impact these relationships. Continued research is needed to understand this association, particularly in more varied subtypes of rumination and cognitive-affective moderators.PMID:38411021 | DOI:10.1111/sltb.13051 (Source: Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior)

Examining the integrated model of the interpersonal-psychological theory of suicide and intersectionality theory among Black male adolescents
CONCLUSION: These findings highlight the need for research, interventions, and policy work devoted to using integrated approaches of individual and socioeconomically relevant patterns of suicidal thoughts and behaviors to support Black youth exposed to various forms of structural oppression.PMID:38411036 | DOI:10.1111/sltb.13066 (Source: Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior)

Clinical utility of depression measures and symptoms: Implications for suicide risk assessment in high risk, resource limited youth populations
CONCLUSIONS: Study implications are for clinicians' use of the BDI-II and CES-D for depression symptom identification and suicide risk monitoring in settings with limited mental health infrastructure.PMID:38411306 | DOI:10.1111/sltb.13068 (Source: Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior)

The effect of parent-adolescent discrepancies in reports of familial dysfunction and depression on suicidal ideation in adolescents
CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that parent-adolescent discrepancies in perception of familial dysfunction is a risk factor for poor outcomes in suicidal youth and might be a fruitful target in treatment programs.PMID:38385782 | DOI:10.1111/sltb.13062 (Source: Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior)
