Predictors of inpatient suicide in an Irish psychiatric service, a longitudinal case-control study
CONCLUSIONS: While not highly sensitive, a period of absence without leave, tertiary referral and hopelessness are important predictors of inpatient suicide risk that treating teams should consider in care planning.PMID:38517159 | DOI:10.1111/sltb.13073 (Source: Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior)

Building stronger bonds: The impact of family support and communication on suicidal behaviors among Black men who have sex with men
CONCLUSIONS: The population focused on in this study is understudied and has unique needs. Identifying familial support may not automatically reduce the thoughts and plans of young BMSM, which is an example of why their intersecting marginalized identities must be considered when conducting further research, creating interventions, and providing therapeutic services.PMID:38488644 | DOI:10.1111/sltb.13072 (Source: Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior)

Association of handgrip strength with suicidal ideation among adults aged ≥50 years from low- and middle-income countries
CONCLUSIONS: Lower handgrip strength was significantly and dose-dependently associated with higher odds for suicidal ideation in adults aged ≥50 years from LMICs. Future longitudinal studies are needed to understand the underlying mechanisms, and whether increasing general muscular strength and physical function may lead to reduction in suicidal ideation.PMID:38469894 | DOI:10.1111/sltb.13071 (Source: Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior)

Psychological mechanisms of the development of suicidal ideation: Longitudinal cohort study
CONCLUSION: The findings suggest that supporting effective social connectedness during times of isolation and promoting self-efficacy, mastery, and regulation of risk tolerance, may be crucial for suicide prevention and therapeutic intervention.PMID:38436505 | DOI:10.1111/sltb.13060 (Source: Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior)
