Association between Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) processes and depressive symptoms and pain interference in persons with spinal cord injury (SCI).
Purpose/Objective: To explore the extent to which Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) core processes are related to depressive symptoms and pain interference in a sample of individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI). Research Method/Design: 159 individuals with an SCI completed self-report surveys of 6 core processes of ACT and of 2 quality-of-life indicators (Spinal Cord Injury-Quality of Life [SCI-QOL] Depressive Symptoms and Pain Interference). Hierarchical linear regressions were used to analyze the amount of variance in depressive symptom and pain interference accounted for by ACT as a comprehensive construct and e...

Usability and validity of a virtual reality cognitive assessment tool for pediatric traumatic brain injury.
Conclusions/Implications: The present study is among the first to evaluate the applicability of an immersive VR-CAT in children with TBI. The findings support high usability, adequate psychometric properties, and satisfactory clinical utility of the VR-CAT, suggesting it is a promising tool for assessing executive functions in this vulnerable population. Forgiveness and wellbeing after spinal cord injury: Perceived stress and adaptation to disability as mediators.
This study sought to examine a comprehensive model of the impact of forgiveness on multidimensional indicators of wellness. Research Method/Design: We tested a path model of the impact of trait forgiveness on wellbeing outcomes in adults living with SCI (N = 312). Specifically, we examined 2 mediating pathways—lower perceived stress and higher adaption to disability—by which dimensions of trait forgiveness (self, others, and situations) may influence wellbeing outcomes (psychological wellbeing, satisfaction with life, and perceived physical health). Results: The final path model (χ² = 41.3, p (Source: Rehabilitation Psychology)

A meta-synthesis of individual, interpersonal, and systemic factors impacting resilience after traumatic brain injury.
Conclusions/Implications: Considering multifaceted factors at individual, interpersonal and systemic levels in clinical, research, and policy-setting contexts is important for cultivating resilience and optimizing recovery after TBI. Clinical utility and psychometric properties of the Ableist Microaggressions Scale.
In this study, the AMS had good total-score internal consistency with a Cronbach’s alpha of .91; three of the four subscales generally showed adequate as given their number of items: .83 for Helplessness, .90 for Denial of Personhood, and .84 for Otherization. However, the Minimization subscale displayed relatively weaker internal consistency with an a of .65. Additionally, the AMS showed adequate item-total correlations ranging from .21 to .77. Despite the high potential of the AMS to be used in research and clinical work, there are several limitations. The original validation study sample was comprised primarily of Whi...

Perceived stress of individuals with disabilities in the United States during COVID-19.
Conclusions/Implications: There is a need for increased attention to dissemination of information to people with disabilities. Knowledge of medical rights was significantly associated with following social distancing practices and suggests that health knowledge does change behavior. Ensuring that people with disabilities are aware of coping skills and how to promote resilience is a needed area of focus for the field. The RESCUE problem solving intervention for stroke caregivers: A mixed-methods pilot study.
Conclusions/Implications: The intervention was feasible to implement and acceptable to caregivers. This intervention shows promise for fulfilling a need for more web-based interventions that focus on skills building and psycho-education, but more rigorous testing is needed to determine effectiveness.
