Psychometric properties of the Disability Identity Development Scale: Confirmatory factor and bifactor analyses.
Conclusion: Analytic results on the DIDS revealed reasonable psychometric properties as a measure of disability identity. Our results support using a sum or total score of disability identity. Results of this work are an important contribution to a growing body of literature supporting, and investigating, disability identity development. Furthermore, the DIDS measure with its resulting composite score of disability identity has the potential to inform clinicians in the field of rehabilitation psychology as well as informing future targeted interventions. Exploring associations of psychological inflexibility with depressive symptoms, anxiety, and stress in individuals living with a spinal cord injury: A cross-sectional study.
Conclusions: Findings of the present study suggest the importance of psychological flexibility in depressive symptoms, anxiety, and stress in individuals with SCI by showing significant associations among these variables. This exploratory study informs the need for further studies involving interventions that aim to foster greater psychological flexibility, which may decrease mental health problems in individuals with SCI. How environmental and psychological factors interact with travel participation after spinal cord injury.
Conclusions/Implications: Although people have high intrinsic motivation for travel, they do not travel for fun as much as for external motivations after SCI. Travel barriers can lower people’s need satisfaction for autonomy, which results more travel for external motivation. The study provides preliminary evidence supporting an SDT-based travel participation model after SCI. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2022 APA, all rights reserved) (Source: Rehabilitation Psychology)

Measuring behavior change technique delivery and receipt in physical activity behavioral interventions.
Conclusions/Implications: This study presents a reliable coding method to measure BCT delivery and receipt in physical activity behavioral support interventions. The method can be used to enhance intervention fidelity assessment and study interactions between counselors and clients with and without disabilities. Measuring and evaluating BCT delivery and receipt can provide new insights into what types of behavioral support work best under which circumstances. Understanding the rehabilitation psychology specialty career pathway.
Conclusions: These preliminary results suggest that the current generalist training sequence does not provide sufficient exposure to, or preparation for the field of rehabilitation psychology. Recruitment opportunities should emphasize student leadership network activities and the identification of early and midcareer practitioners unaware of the rehabilitation specialty. Predicting depression and anxiety among adults with disabilities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Conclusion/Implications: This study highlights important demographic and psychosocial predictors of mental health risks for people with disabilities in the context of COVID-19. Findings further underscore the need to attend to those at elevated risk within the disability community as rehabilitation professionals, disability organizations, and policy makers work to support people with disabilities in postpandemic recovery and create a more equitable response to ongoing and future public health crises. Health care providers’ perspectives on resilience and positive adjustment within the spinal cord injury population.
Conclusions/Implications: Results highlighted discrepancies between providers’ perceptions and the current literature on resilience and SCI. Specifically, while many acknowledge resilience within this population, many providers indicated significant levels of mental health concerns and poor adjustment following an SCI. Due to the impact health care providers have on patient care, and research linking positive support from health care providers to resilience in SCI, further understanding of these misperceptions and biases is critical. Suggestions for providers to address potential biases and misperceptions, and ultimately...

Rehabilitation psychology: 2020 state of the field survey.
Purpose/Objective: To date, there are no published formal surveys of the “state of the field” of Rehabilitation Psychology in terms of education, training, practice patterns, professional identity, and relative salary and income structures for those who identify as Rehabilitation Psychologists. Group identity in blindness groups predicts life satisfaction and lower anxiety and depression.
Objective: Group disability identity (GDI) refers to feelings of connection to the disability community. Researchers have proposed that disability identity protects against disability-related stressors. However, few empirical studies have examined this hypothesis, and psychological research is needed that examines the role of GDI in mental health and related outcomes. Method: This cross-sectional study examined the association between 2 GDI attitudes (disability integration and disability isolation) and 3 mental health-related indicators (life satisfaction, anxiety, and depression) in a sample of 187 U.S. adult members of ...

COVID-19 and the spinal cord injury community: Concerns about medical rationing and social isolation.
Conclusion/Implications: Our findings suggest that the COVID-19 pandemic has negatively impacted mental health and increased concerns of social isolation as well as access to medical supplies among those with SCI. Rehabilitation psychologists must advocate alongside the disability community to limit health disparities and to conduct outreach, specifically with regard to mental health issues. Future research should focus on the effects of pandemic-related fears and social isolation, as well as resilience in the context of public health care threats.
