Brain –Computer Interfaces for Communication in Patients with Disorders of Consciousness: A Gap Analysis and Scientific Roadmap
ConclusionsWe identify clinical and technical gaps hindering the use of BCI in patients with DoC in each of these contexts and provide a roadmap for research aimed at improving communication for adults and children with DoC, spanning the clinical spectrum from intensive care unit to chronic care. Risk, Predictive, and Preventive Factors for Noninfectious Ventriculitis and External Ventricular Drain Infection
ConclusionsAneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage or fever with neuroinflammation within 2 weeks of EVD placement is indicative of a higher likelihood of noninfectious ventriculitis. Conversely, patients with arteriovenous malformation, alcoholism, or fever with neuroinflammation occurring after more than 3 weeks of EVD placement are more likely to necessitate antibiotic treatment for EVD infection. Chlorhexidine gluconate bathing decreases EVD infection. (Source: Neurocritical Care)

Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage and Sex Differences: Analysis of Epidemiology, Outcomes, and Risk Factors
ConclusionsThere were more female patients with aneurysms than male patients in this study. Most aneurysm locations were different between the two groups. There was no significant difference in discharge outcomes before and after PSM. The risk factors for dependent survival were different between female and male patients. (Source: Neurocritical Care)

Disclosing Results of Tests for Covert Consciousness: A Framework for Ethical Translation
AbstractThe advent of neurotechnologies including advanced functional magnetic resonance imaging and electroencephalography to detect states of awareness not detectable by traditional bedside neurobehavioral techniques (i.e., covert consciousness) promises to transform neuroscience research and clinical practice for patients with brain injury. As these interventions progress from research tools into actionable, guideline-endorsed clinical tests, ethical guidance for clinicians on how to responsibly communicate the sensitive results they yield is crucial yet remains underdeveloped. Drawing on insights from empirical and the...

Using Artificial Intelligence to Predict Intracranial Hypertension in Patients After Traumatic Brain Injury: A Systematic Review
AbstractIntracranial hypertension (IH) is a key driver of secondary brain injury in patients with traumatic brain injury. Lowering intracranial pressure (ICP) as soon as IH occurs is important, but a preemptive approach would be more beneficial. We systematically reviewed the artificial intelligence (AI) models, variables, performances, risks of bias, and clinical machine learning (ML) readiness levels of IH prediction models using AI. We conducted a systematic search until 12-03-2023 in three databases. Only studies predicting IH or ICP in patients with traumatic brain injury with a validation of the AI model were include...
