Validation of an artificial intelligence-based method to automate Cobb angle measurement on spinal radiographs of children with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis
CONCLUSIONS: An AI-based algorithm was developed to measure the Cobb angle automatically on radiographs and yielded reliable measurements quickly. The algorithm provides detailed images on how the angles were measured, providing interpretability that can give clinicians confidence in the measurements.CLINICAL REHABILITATION IMPACT: Employing the algorithm in practice could streamline clinical workflow and optimize measurement accuracy and speed in order to inform AIS treatment decisions.PMID:37746786 | DOI:10.23736/S1973-9087.23.08091-7 (Source: Methods of Information in Medicine)

An Exploratory Study on the Utility of Patient-Generated Health Data as a Tool for Health Care Professionals in Multiple Sclerosis Care
CONCLUSION: HCPs are optimistic about mHealth and PGHD as tools to further understand their patients' needs and support care in MS. HCPs from different disciplines have different perceptions of what types of PGHD are useful; however, subjective types of PGHD seem potentially more useful for MS care.PMID:37748719 | DOI:10.1055/s-0043-1775718 (Source: Methods of Information in Medicine)

Physical strength levels and short-term memory efficiency in primary school children: a possible match?
CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that physical strength can positively influence short-term memory. In addition, this impact is enhanced in older-age children. Thus, primary school programs should stimulate physical strength to help children develop cognitive abilities.PMID:37736663 | DOI:10.23736/S0022-4707.23.14996-6 (Source: Methods of Information in Medicine)

Nutrition-associated health levels in persons with cancer: item response modelling based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health
CONCLUSIONS: The study constructed an evidence-based ICF scale for nutrition conditions in patients with cancer with 32-item and 2PLM for evaluating nutrition-associated health level in persons with cancer, including high validity and reliability.CLINICAL REHABILITATION IMPACT: The IRT model based on ICF provided a promising assessment tool to discriminate nutrition-associated health level of persons with cancer, and offered an auxiliary method for selecting rehabilitation intervention targets. This has the potential to lead to improved outcomes in cancer treatment and increased quality of life for cancer survivors.PMID:37...

Physiological effects of exercise in heat while wearing a polyester versus cotton T-shirt in physically active men with obesity: a pilot study
CONCLUSIONS: The current findings do not support the superiority of polyester or cotton sportwear for better thermoregulatory, perspiratory, and cardiovascular regulations in physically active men with obesity. Future research should examine the effectiveness of other alternative fabrics of sportwear for better physiological responses when exercising in the heat, particularly in adults with obesity.PMID:37721720 | DOI:10.23736/S0022-4707.23.15164-4 (Source: Methods of Information in Medicine)

Molecular Dynamics as a Tool for Virtual Ligand Screening
Methods Mol Biol. 2024;2714:33-83. doi: 10.1007/978-1-0716-3441-7_3.ABSTRACTRational drug design is essential for new drugs to emerge, especially when the structure of a target protein or nucleic acid is known. To that purpose, high-throughput virtual ligand screening campaigns aim at discovering computationally new binding molecules or fragments to modulate particular biomolecular interactions or biological activities, related to a disease process. The structure-based virtual ligand screening process primarily relies on docking methods which allow predicting the binding of a molecule to a biological target structure with ...
