Prospective Audit of Gentamicin Drug Monitoring Practice in a Pediatric Cancer Center

Assessment of Right Heart Functions in Children with Mild Cystic Fibrosis
Conclusion Elevated PASP, RV failure, and Cor pulmonale usually begin early in children with mild CF. In addition to routine echocardiographic measurements to evaluate RV, we recommend the use of new echocardiographic modalities for routine examinations and in the follow up of children with mild CF. Benefit of Static FET PET in Pretreated Pediatric Brain Tumor Patients with Equivocal Conventional MRI Results
Conclusions We observed a clear benefit from additional static FET-PET/CT-scans when conventional MRI identified equivocal lesions in pretreated pediatric brain tumor patients. These results warrant prospective studies that should include dynamic scans. Different Effects of Two Protocols for Pre-Procedural Analgosedation on Vital Signs in Neonates during and after Endotracheal Intubation
Conclusions The two protocols yielded significant differences in the time to intubation and in the extent and duration of physiologic changes during and post-intubation. Short acting drugs should be preferred and vital signs should be closely monitored at least 20 min post intubation. More studies are required to identify analgosedation protocols that minimize potentially harmful events during endotracheal intubation. Case Report: 7-Year-Old Boy with Incarcerated Internal Hernia Leading to Extensive Intestinal Necrosis Due to a Large Congenital Mesenteric Defect
We present a case of a 7-year-old boy with acute abdominal symptoms initially misdiagnosed as constipation. Delayed imaging diagnostics revealed an ileus with contorted small intestine, so laparotomy was indicated. An acute bowel obstruction was found based on an incarcerated internal hernia. Small and large bowel segments were incarcerated into a large mesenteric defect leading to extended intestinal necrosis. About 30 cm of necrotic small bowel and 15 cm of large intestine were resected, two primary anastomoses were performed. The mesenteric defect was closed with two running sutures. The boy’s clinical outcome was ver...

Prevalence of COVID-19 Among Children and Adolescents While Easing Lockdown Restrictions in Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany
Conclusion A precautious stepwise opening of schools and day care facilities was not associated with the occurrence of a relevant prevalence of COVID-19 among children and adolescents. However, a low general prevalence of COVID-19 at the end of the observation period has to be taken into account. Systematic testing might enable adjusted regulations in favor of full closures, especially in the light of increasing evidence for pediatric patients constituting a low-risk group for COVID-19. Progress and Barriers Towards Elimination of Chronic Hepatitis C in Children
Klin Padiatr DOI: 10.1055/a-1304-3542Chronic hepatitis C (CHC) is a global health burden. Mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) accounts for most HCV infections in pediatric patients. Spontaneous viral clearance may occur in early childhood but is uncommon thereafter. Infection is usually asymptomatic during childhood, although without an effective treatment, vertically infected children may develop serious liver complications including cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma in adulthood. Despite the lack of vaccine against hepatitis C and effective post-exposure methods of prevention of MTCT, treatment with direct-acting an...

Febrile Urinary Tract Infections in Children with Primary Non-Refluxing Megaureter: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Conclusion Based on the current available evidence the use of continuous antibiotic prophylaxis for children with PM selected for primary non-surgical treatment should be taken into consideration, at least in patients with urinary outflow impairment, higher grade of ureteral dilatation, and for children in the first months of life.
