Utilization of iPad Technology to Decrease Pediatric Preoperative Anxiety
Purpose The purpose of this project was to determine if iPad technology could decrease preoperative anxiety in school-age children. Each year, more than five million children in the United States have surgical procedures. Preoperative anxiety can delay induction of anesthesia, provoke the release of stress hormones, and hinder postoperative recovery. To decrease preoperative anxiety, a 17-page colorful iPad prep book was developed. The iPad prep book included pictures and words describing the outpatient day surgery process. Procedure A preexperimental one-group pretest/posttest design was utilized to focus on decreasi...

Utilization of Research Findings and Barriers in Pediatric Surgical Nurses in Turkey
Conclusion Utilization of research in pediatric surgical nursing practice was found to be mostly affected by the features of workplace (settings). We think that research utilization might be increased by making necessary institutional arrangements, developing strategies for the use of clinical research, and providing nurses with educational and research opportunities. Hirschsprung’s Disease: How to Prevent Enterocolitis With Rectal Irrigations
Hirschsprung's disease is a condition where intestinal motility is compromised because of the absence of ganglion cells in the submucosal and myenteric plexus. Syncopal Workup in Pediatric Trauma Patients
Evaluation and treatment of patients experiencing a syncopal episode after an unwitnessed trauma can be a challenging dilemma for the pediatric surgery/trauma team. The workup may include consultation to many specialists including neurology, neurosurgery, and cardiology. Testing can be extensive and confusing to patients and their families.
