Nasal Bridling of Nasoenteric Feeding Tubes: Implementation Program in the Pediatric Surgical Population Less Than 1 Year Old
Discussion Bridling of nasoenteric feeding tubes is a safe and effective method for preventing unintended tube dislodgement, leading to improved patient care in the pediatric surgical population less than 1 year old. On the basis of our institution's results, ongoing continuing education for use and care of nasoenteric feeding tubes is recommended for the pediatric surgical population. Utilization of iPad Technology to Decrease Pediatric Preoperative Anxiety
Purpose The purpose of this project was to determine if iPad technology could decrease preoperative anxiety in school-age children. Each year, more than five million children in the United States have surgical procedures. Preoperative anxiety can delay induction of anesthesia, provoke the release of stress hormones, and hinder postoperative recovery. To decrease preoperative anxiety, a 17-page colorful iPad prep book was developed. The iPad prep book included pictures and words describing the outpatient day surgery process. Conclusion Utilization of research in pediatric surgical nursing practice was found to be mostly affected by the features of workplace (settings).
