Height, social position and coronary heart disease incidence: the contribution of genetic and environmental factors
Conclusions
Residual height associations with SEP and CHD incidence were larger than for PGS-height. This supports the role of material and social living conditions in childhood as contributing factors to the association of height with both SEP and CHD risk. Estimation of effects of extreme temperature on the risk of hospitalisation in Taiwan
Conclusion
Public health preparedness should consider the increased load on health facilities and health expenditures during extreme temperatures. (Source: Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health)

Life course partnership history and objectively measured physical functional ability in Danish middle-aged adults
Conclusion
Accumulated number of years living alone but not break-ups was associated with poorer physical functional ability. Joint exposure to a high number of years lived alone or break-ups respectively and having a short education was associated with the lowest levels of functional ability, which points towards an important target group for interventions. No gender differences were suggested. (Source: Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health)

Trajectories in physical functioning by occupational class among retiring women: the significance of type of retirement and social and health-related factors
Conclusions
Class inequalities in physical functioning widened after old-age retirement and narrowed after disability retirement. The examined work and health-related factors contributed weakly to the inequalities. (Source: Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health)

Association between long working hours and physical inactivity in middle-aged and older adults: a Korean longitudinal study (2006-2020)
Conclusion
We found that having working long hours was associated with a higher risk of physical inactivity and a lower likelihood of high-level physical activity. Moreover, accumulation of long working hours was associated with a higher risk of physical inactivity. (Source: Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health)

Tobacco and alcohol consumption and the risk of frailty and falling: a Mendelian randomisation study
Conclusions
Our findings demonstrate that tobacco use, but not alcohol drinking, significantly increases the risk of frailty and falling. Future studies are warranted to clarify the underlying physiopathological mechanisms. (Source: Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health)

Gender identity and sexual orientation: a glossary
Gender and sexually diverse populations remain understudied and under-represented in research. This is attributable not only to significant and ongoing data collection limitations, where large population-based studies fail to ask adequate questions around gender and sexuality, but also due to continuously evolving terminology in this space. This glossary takes a preliminary step in rectifying these issues by defining and clarifying the application and understanding of key terms related to gender, gender identity, expression and sexuality. In doing so, this glossary provides a point of reference for understanding key differ...

Couple concordance in diabetes, hypertension and dyslipidaemia in urban India and Pakistan and associated socioeconomic and household characteristics and modifiable risk factors
Conclusions
Positive couple concordance in major chronic conditions is high in urban India and Pakistan, especially among couples with relatively higher socioeconomic position. This suggests that prevention and management focusing on couples at high risk for concordant chronic conditions may be effective and more so in higher socioeconomic groups. Factors related to COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among middle-income and low-income adults in the USA
Background
Vaccine hesitancy has been an ongoing challenge in campaigns, especially the rapid development and approval of the COVID-19 vaccines. The goal of this study was to understand the characteristics, perceptions and beliefs of COVID-19 vaccination prior to its widespread rollout among middle-income and low-income US adults.
Methods
Using a national sample of 2101 adults who completed an online assessment in 2021, this study examines the association of demographics, attitudes and behaviours related to COVID-19 vaccination intentions. Adaptive least absolute shrinkage and selection operator models were used to select...

Loss of a child and the risk of atrial fibrillation: a Danish population-based prospective cohort study
Conclusions
The death of a child was associated with a modestly increased risk of AF. Bereaved parents may benefit from increased support from family members and health professionals. (Source: Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health)

Association of infection with Toxoplasma gondii and Toxocara on cognitive function among US adults aged 60 and over, NHANES 2011-2014
Conclusions
Seropositivity to these parasites, particularly to Toxocara, may be associated with diminished cognitive performance in certain subgroups of older adults. (Source: Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health)

2008 economic crisis impact on perinatal and infant mortality in Southern European countries
Conclusion
Our results confirm the impact of the Great Recession on PMR and IMR trends in all four countries, taking recurring associations between macroeconomic cycles, variations in mortality trends, macroeconomic volatility and stagnation of IMR and PMR into account. The association with socioeconomic indicators stresses the need to strengthen social protection and healthcare systems to better protect the population’s health from the earliest days. Creative leisure activities, mental health and well-being during 5 months of the COVID-19 pandemic: a fixed effects analysis of data from 3725 US adults
Conclusion
Some findings differ from evidence obtained in the UK, demonstrating the importance of replicating research across countries. Our findings should also be considered when formulating guidelines for future stay-at-home directives, enabling individuals to stay well despite the closure of public resources. Multimorbidity pattern and risk of dementia in later life: an 11-year follow-up study using a large community cohort and linked electronic health records
Conclusions
Early identification of older adults at higher risk of accumulating multimorbidity of specific pathophysiology and tailored interventions to prevent or delay the onset of such multimorbidity may help prevention of dementia. (Source: Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health)
