Association between social activity frequency and overall survival in older people: results from the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS)
Conclusion Frequent participation in social activity was significantly associated with prolonged overall survival in older people. However, only participating in social activity almost every day could significantly prolong long-term survival. (Source: Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health)

Effectiveness of social prescribing for chronic disease prevention in adults: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials
Conclusions SP exercise interventions probably increased physical activity slightly; however, no benefits were observed for metabolic factors. Determining whether SP is effective in modifying the determinants of chronic diseases and promotes sustainable healthy behaviours is limited by the current evidence of quantification and uncertainty, warranting further rigorous studies. Health-related quality of life associated with sensory impairment in Chinese middle-aged and older adults: a cohort study
Conclusion This study observed decreased HRQoL in association with SI. The greater impact of DSI underlines the need for integrated care for comorbid sensory conditions. Our findings also indicate the necessity to reduce the burden of SI among more vulnerable populations such as females and rural adults. (Source: Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health)

Food insecurity and its association with health and well-being in middle-aged and older adults in India
Conclusions Food insecurity is a powerful social determinant of poor health among older adults in India. Policy measures to improve population health and well-being should closely follow trends in food insecurity, particularly among those living in poverty and with multiple health conditions. Has COVID-19 increased inequality in mortality by income in the Netherlands?
Conclusion The COVID-19 pandemic has led to an increase in income-related inequality in all-cause mortality. Non-COVID mortality was less unequally distributed than expected due to displacement of other causes by COVID-19 and the potentially unequal broader societal impact of the pandemic. Is urban regeneration associated with antidepressants or sedative medication users: a registry-based natural experiment
Conclusion Urban regeneration was not associated with users of antidepressant or sedative medication. We found lower levels of antidepressant and sedative medication users in the exposed area compared with the control area. More studies are needed to investigate the underlying reasons for these findings, and whether they could be related to underuse. (Source: Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health)

Associations between type of childhood adversities and labour market participation and employment conditions in young adults
Conclusions Different adverse experiences are not equally associated with labour market outcomes. Researchers and stakeholders in policy and practice should be aware of the differences between adverse experiences in their importance for labour market outcomes in young adults. Contribution of parental health to the subsequent social assistance entry of the family with children: a nationwide register-linked birth cohort study in Finland
Conclusion Parental specialised healthcare records were associated with a higher risk of social assistance need. Thus more interventions to support financial management are required for parents with psychiatric diagnoses. (Source: Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health)

Longitudinal patterns of childhood homelessness and early adolescent trajectories of internalising and externalising behaviour
Conclusion Childhood homelessness is associated with persistently elevated internalising and externalising symptoms across early adolescence compared with their consistently housed peers. Interventions and policies to address family homelessness may lead to better mental health among adolescents. (Source: Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health)

Childhood adversity is associated with hospitalisations and survival following external causes and non-communicable diseases: a 46-year follow-up of a Stockholm birth cohort
Conclusion Differential risk of morbidity and differential survival may explain inequalities in mortality following childhood adversity. We conclude that the healthcare sector might play an important role in preventing and mitigating the elevated risks of externally caused morbidity, disease and premature mortality observed among those with a history of ICWS. Social capital-based mental health interventions for refugees: Ukraine and beyond
Introduction New knowledge about social capital and mental health for refugees is particularly timely in light of the current Ukrainian refugee situation. Several European countries, typically more accustomed to funding large-scale refugee aid operations on other continents, find themselves receiving and providing primary aid to waves of Ukrainian refugees. The United Nations estimates that more than 6.8 million people have left Ukraine (as of 29 May 20221), and 7.1 million have been internally displaced (as of 23 May 20222); the actual totals have likely increased in subsequent months. Governments, aid organisations and h...

Clinical gynaecological perspectives to improve validity in clinical research: comment on the article by Chiuve et al
We read the article by Chiuve et al with great interest. We appreciate the authors’ novel and interesting study using large US nationwide healthcare insurance data to determine the rate of mental health diagnosis in women with uterine fibroids (UF), a topic that has never been studied.1 However, for future clinical research, we have two suggestions regarding its external validity and internal validity from clinical gynaecological perspectives. Our first concern is regarding its external validity. What clinical settings should gynaecologists extrapolate the results of this study to, for patients diagnosed with UF? UF ...

Short-term effect of colorectal cancer on income: analysis of an Italian cohort
Conclusion Income loss does not seem to be related to an increase in part-time contracts, but rather to survivors’ reduced work capacity following the invasive treatments. Further research is needed to investigate the complex dynamics behind this association. (Source: Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health)

Exploring the associations of daily movement behaviours and mid-life cognition: a compositional analysis of the 1970 British Cohort Study
Conclusions Relative to time spent in other behaviours, greater MVPA and SB was associated with higher cognitive scores. Loss of MVPA time, given its smaller relative amount, appears most deleterious. Efforts should be made to preserve MVPA time, or reinforce it in place of other behaviours. Latent profiles of biological dysregulation and risk of mortality: time-to-event analysis using the Midlife in the US longitudinal study
Conclusion The findings are consistent with the previous research that demonstrates increased AL as a risk factor for mortality. Specifically, in women, that increased risk may be associated with immunometabolic dysregulation and not simply a generalised measure of cumulative risk as is typically employed in AL research.
