Assessing the risk of intentional self-harm in montelukast users: an updated Sentinel System analysis using ICD-10 coding
CONCLUSION: Our results cannot exclude other neuropsychiatric idiosyncratic reactions to montelukast. Compared to the previous Sentinel study, this study identified about double the rate of self-harm events, suggesting a greater sensitivity of ICD-10 codes for measuring self-harm than ICD-9.PMID:38064517 | DOI:10.1080/02770903.2023.2293064 (Source: Journal of Asthma)

Characteristics of asthma in an older adult population according to sex and control level: Why are asthma symptoms in older women not well-controlled?
CONCLUSION: Herein, older adults comprised 11.5% of adult patients with asthma. Being female poses a disadvantage in terms of both asthma prevalence and control in the older adult asthmatic population owing to the prevalence of comorbidities and socioeconomic sex-related distinguishing factors.PMID:38060588 | DOI:10.1080/02770903.2023.2293062 (Source: Journal of Asthma)

Exacerbations, treatment patterns, utilization, and costs before and after initiating of benralizumab for the treatment of severe eosinophilic asthma
CONCLUSIONS: Treatment with benralizumab resulted in fewer exacerbations, reduced utilization, and improved ACT scores. This study demonstrates that benralizumab is an effective treatment option for patients with severe eosinophilic asthma.PMID:38054593 | DOI:10.1080/02770903.2023.2289169 (Source: Journal of Asthma)

Parental Knowledge and Attitudes toward Asthma in Jordanian children with asthma, a multi-center cross sectional study
CONCLUSION: While the knowledge and practice scores were satisfactory, the clinical status of children with asthma was unsatisfactory. Future studies should examine factors associated with caregiver insecurity and measure their extent of applying asthma prevention guidelines.PMID:38047590 | DOI:10.1080/02770903.2023.2289165 (Source: Journal of Asthma)

Exploring the Relationship Between Asthma, Its Severity and Anxiety Symptoms in Pediatric Patients: A Case-Control Study
CONCLUSION: This study highlights a significant association between asthma and heightened anxiety symptoms in children, particularly in domains such as separation anxiety, social phobia, agoraphobia, and fears related to physical injury. However, limitations include reliance on self-evaluation questionnaires and the observational nature of the study, emphasizing the need for cautious interpretation.PMID:38009701 | DOI:10.1080/02770903.2023.2289158 (Source: Journal of Asthma)

Autophagy Related Gene 5 Polymorphism rs17587319 (C/G) in Asthmatic Patients in North Indian Population
In conclusion, rs17587319 (C/G) of ATG5 does not predispose individuals to asthma in our part of the world. Further studies are needed including more number of samples to ascertain the role of this polymorphism in asthma.PMID:38009708 | DOI:10.1080/02770903.2023.2289156 (Source: Journal of Asthma)

Perspectives and experiences of mothers of school-age children with asthma: a qualitative study
CONCLUSIONS: In this sample, the caregiving experience of mothers of school-age children with asthma is diverse and complex, reflected not only in personal psychological aspects but also in family functioning and social support. Taking into account various factors, such as addressing psychological well-being, emphasizing family and social support, and promoting the sharing of positive experiences, may result in more effective alleviation of caregiving stress for mothers of school-age children with asthma.PMID:38009785 | DOI:10.1080/02770903.2023.2288322 (Source: Journal of Asthma)
