Imaging of metabolic and overload disorders in tissues and organs
AbstractMetabolic and overload disorders are a heterogeneous group of relatively uncommon but important diseases. While imaging plays a key role in the early detection and accurate diagnosis in specific organs with a pivotal role in several metabolic pathways, most of these diseases affect different tissues as part of a systemic syndromes. Moreover, since the symptoms are often vague and phenotypes similar, imaging alterations can present as incidental findings, which must be recognized and interpreted in the light of further biochemical and histological investigations. Among imaging modalities, MRI allows, thanks to its m...

A transfer learning approach for staging diagnosis of anterior cruciate ligament injury on a new modified MR dual precision positioning of thin-slice oblique sagittal FS-PDWI sequence
ConclusionThe transfer learning approach exhibits its feasibility in the diagnosis of ACL injury based on the new modified MR DPP-TSO-Sag-FS-PDWI sequence, suggesting that it can help radiologists hierarchical diagnose ACL injuries, especially grade 2 injury. (Source: Japanese Journal of Radiology)

Patterns of failure in glioblastoma multiforme following Standard (60  Gy) or Short course (40 Gy) radiation and concurrent temozolomide
ConclusionsStandard course tended to be significant in younger age groups and have a better KPS than the Short course; therefore, the Standard course has a longer OS, but the recurrence pattern of the Short course is similar to that of the Standard treatment. (Source: Japanese Journal of Radiology)

Radiation exposure in cardiac computed tomography imaging in Mie prefecture in 2021
ConclusionAs of 2021, low tube potential and prospective scanning are underutilized, whereas iterative reconstruction is used in every coronary CTA in Mie Prefecture. Further efforts to optimize the radiation exposure from cardiac CT scans are necessary. (Source: Japanese Journal of Radiology)

Liver cirrhosis: relationship between fibrosis-associated hepatic morphological changes and portal hemodynamics using four-dimensional flow magnetic resonance imaging
ConclusionThe atrophy –hypertrophy complex, which is a characteristic imaging finding in advanced cirrhosis, was closely associated with decreased RPV flow in the early stage of fibrosis and a gradual increase in LPV flow across all stages of fibrosis progression. Natural progression of persistent pure ground-glass nodules 10  mm or smaller: long-term observation and risk factor assessment
ConclusionspGGNs of 5 –10 mm showed an indolent clinical course. Follow-up CT imaging of pGGNs in the latter half of the first two years should be a rational management strategy. Small pGGNs with a larger overall m-CTA and roundness index on baseline CT are more likely to grow. (Source: Japanese Journal of Radiology)

Denoising approach with deep learning-based reconstruction for neuromelanin-sensitive MRI: image quality and diagnostic performance
ConclusionImage quality for NEX1  + dDLR was comparable to that of NEX5. dDLR has the potential to reduce scan time of NM-MRI without degrading image quality. Both 1-NEX NM-MRI with and without dDLR showed high AUCs for diagnosing PD by CR. The results of visual assessment suggest advantages of dDLR. Further tuning of dDLR woul d be expected to provide clinical merits in diagnosing PD. (Source: Japanese Journal of Radiology)

3D T1rho sequences with FASE, UTE, and MAPSS acquisitions for knee evaluation
ConclusionWe have successfully developed and implemented the new T1rho sequences and validated them using agarose phantoms and volunteer knees. All sequences were optimized to be clinically feasible (~  5 min or less) and yielded satisfactory image quality and T1rho values consistent with the literature. Curcumol β-cyclodextrin inclusion complex enhances radiosensitivity of esophageal cancer under hypoxic and normoxic condition
ConclusionThis study demonstrated that C βC could enhance radiosensitivity of EC cells under hypoxic and normoxic condition. Thus, CβC can be used as an effective radiosensitizer for EC. (Source: Japanese Journal of Radiology)
