An analysis of the left top pulmonary vein and comparison with the right top pulmonary vein for lung resection by three-dimensional CT angiography and thin-section images
ConclusionThe top PV branching pattern variations can be evaluated using thin-section CT and 3D-CTA images. RTPV is not a rare finding, and LTPV should also be identified in lung cancer cases scheduled for resection. (Source: Japanese Journal of Radiology)

Changes in renal function over time in outpatients with eGFR  ≥ 30 mL/min/1.73 m2: implication for timing of renal function testing before contrast-enhanced CT imaging
ConclusionsOutpatients with initial eGFR  ≥ 60 mL/min/1.73 m2 might not need routine eGFR test prior to contrast-enhanced CT scan for 1  year. In addition, chronic kidney disease, hypertension, and heart failure increased the risk of declined renal function, particularly, in outpatients with initial eGFR between 30 and 59 mL/min/1.73 m2. Association of pericoronary adipose tissue with atrial fibrillation recurrence after ablation based on computed tomographic angiography
ConclusionEATVI and LCX-FAI were related to recurrence of AF after ablation and have important clinical value in predicting the AF recurrence. (Source: Japanese Journal of Radiology)

Retrospective comparison of clinical outcomes of ultrasound-guided percutaneous cholecystostomy in patients with and without coagulopathy: a single center ’s experience
ConclusionClinical outcomes and complications rates after PC did not statistically differ between patients with and without coagulopathy, but there was a tendency of higher risk of hemorrhage in coagulopathy patients. Therefore, the indication of this procedure should be carefully determined. (Source: Japanese Journal of Radiology)

Neuroimaging of hypophysitis: etiologies and imaging mimics
AbstractHypophysitis is an inflammatory disease affecting the pituitary gland. Hypophysitis can be classified into multiple types depending on the mechanisms (primary or secondary), histology (lymphocytic, granulomatous, xanthomatous, plasmacytic/IgG4 related, necrotizing, or mixed), and anatomy (adenohypophysitis, infundibulo-neurohypophysitis, or panhypophysitis). An appropriate diagnosis is vital for managing these potentially life-threatening conditions. However, physiological morphological alterations, remnants, and  neoplastic and non-neoplastic lesions may masquerade as hypophysitis, both clinically and radiologica...

Renal cryoablation combined with prior transcatheter arterial embolization in non-dialysis patients with stage 4 or 5 chronic kidney disease: a retrospective study
ConclusionCryoablation combined with TAE for RCC in non-dialysis patients with stage 4 or 5 CKD was effective and safe, with an acceptable impact on renal function. (Source: Japanese Journal of Radiology)

Evaluation of radiation dose reduction in head CT using the half-dose method
ConclusionThe HDM yielded diagnostically acceptable images. In addition, a change in protocol for only two diseases successfully reduced the patients ’ overall radiation exposure by approximately 15%. Introducing and optimizing the HDM for frequently performed target diseases will be useful in reducing the exposure dose for the hospital’s patient population. (Source: Japanese Journal of Radiology)

Four-dimensional quantitative analysis using FDG-PET in clinical oncology
AbstractPositron emission tomography (PET) with F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) has been commonly used in many oncological areas. High-resolution PET permits a three-dimensional analysis of FDG distributions on various lesions in vivo, which can be applied for tissue characterization, risk analysis, and treatment monitoring after chemoradiotherapy and immunotherapy. Metabolic changes can be assessed using the tumor absolute FDG uptake as standardized uptake value (SUV) and metabolic tumor volume (MTV). In addition, tumor heterogeneity assessment can potentially estimate tumor aggressiveness and resistance to chemoradiotherap...

Follow-up Tc-99  m pyrophosphate cardiac scan for patients with transthyretin cardiac amyloidosis treated with tafamidis
ConclusionA decrease in H/CL ratio was found after tafamidis therapy in patients with ATTR-CA, albeit the magnitude of changes in the H/CL ratio ( ΔH/CL ratio) was not significantly different from that of patients without tafamidis therapy. Future study with larger population might be required to further clarify the effect of tafamidis therapy on myocardial uptake of Tc-99 m PYP.Clinical trial registrationNo clinical trial was conducted in our retrospective study. Utility of flow diverters in treatment of acutely ruptured uncoilable aneurysms of the posterior circulation of the brain
ConclusionThe procedure-related morbidity and mortality is not negligible. However, the risks and efficacy associated with FDs are acceptable, especially when adjunctive coiling is possible, given the lack of treatment alternatives. (Source: Japanese Journal of Radiology)
