Letter to the editor, regarding: The role of 3D digital applications in manual therapy education – A scoping review
I congratulate the authors for publishing the topic regarding manual therapy education through 3D digital applications, it is an innovative topic for the profession. Unfortunately, a relevant study conducted by Ref.[1] was not included in this review. It is a randomized control trial which investigates the effect of 3D images for training undergraduate physiotherapy students with manual clinical skills compared with 2D images [1]. The study included 77 subjects and showed a significant effect of using 3D images in manual skills training with a medium effect size of 0.54. (Source: International Journal of Osteopathic Medicine)

Response to Lo et al. regarding “The role of 3D digital applications in Manual Therapy Education – A scoping review”
We would like to thank Lo et al. (2022) for their queries on our recently published scoping review [1]. We congratulate the authors for their randomized controlled trial comparing 3-versus 2-dimensional images for teaching physical examination skills for physiotherapy students [2]. Without a doubt, their study addresses an important topic in physiotherapy. While the clinical trial by Lo et al. (2022) was comparing 3D photogrammetry images with 2D traditional images for teaching physical examination skills of physiotherapy students, the intervention of interest for our review was 3D digital application emulating AR, VR or M...

Looking beyond the pool: An intersectional feminist perspective on osteopathic education
This paper is a critical conflict-based intersectional feminist approach to professional training that requires students to undress and expose their bodies in order to acquire knowledge. A premise of this essay is that such training is exclusive, harmful and rooted in aesthetic values that tend to percolate osteopathic discourse in multiple ways. The dangerous side of aesthetically guided professional behaviour renders potential harm to people who sit on the margins of what is considered beautiful and normal in the Global North, subsequently contributing to the wider health inequities and social injustice. Diagnosis and management of headache disorders in osteopathic practice: A qualitative study
Recurring headache disorders are prevalent conditions that have a substantial impact on both individuals ’ daily lives and national health systems. Despite being a treatable condition, they remain underdiagnosed and undertreated. Currently, there is little qualitative research that has explored practitioner experiences of diagnosing and managing these disorders. (Source: International Journal of Osteopathic Medicine)

The role of virtual reality (VR) with haptic feedback in enhancing physical examination skills of health care students – A systematic review protocol
Virtual reality (VR) technologies have been in existence for decades, with their use extended to several applied fields including, amongst others, teaching and learning [1]. The two main reasons to use VR in an educational setting include: 1) the fascination among young people with new technologies such as VR, suggests a greater interest in learning in those environments; and 2) VR could facilitate a visual understanding of complex concepts for students and reduce misconceptions. A recent systematic review emphasized that a VR system improves understanding of anatomical spatial relationships for students, and users strongl...

The role of 3D digital applications in Manual therapy education – A scoping review
Currently, teaching methods for developing physical assessment and palpation skills in manual therapy is challenging for both learners and educators. 3D digital technologies such as virtual reality (VR) may facilitate and/or address these challenges. However, their current usage in improving learning outcomes in manual therapy education is unknown. (Source: International Journal of Osteopathic Medicine)

Osteopathic manipulative treatment in cardiac surgery patients: A systematic review
Osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) in surgical patients aims at reducing postoperative pain and enhancing recovery. The effects of OMT have not been extensively studied in cardiac surgery patients, mostly owing to the fact that a limited number of osteopathic physicians are trained in thoracic surgery. Manual therapy as a management approach for gastroesophageal reflux disease: A systematic review
Gastroesophageal reflux disease is a chronic condition resulting from a retrograde flow of part of the gastroduodenal contents into the esophagus. Generally, this reflux is linked to a malfunction of the lower esophageal sphincter. Studies involving manipulative therapies suggested an important role in the coadjuvant treatment for reflux, acting as a form of prevention and treatment. An exploration of the clinical reasoning used by registered osteopaths in their choice of therapeutic approach
Osteopathic healthcare has been shown to include a broad range of therapeutic interventions, however little is known about the clinical reasoning used by practitioners in their selection of these modalities. The aim of this research is to address this gap in the literature and explore what influences a practitioner's choice of therapeutic approach. (Source: International Journal of Osteopathic Medicine)
