To the editor, we would like to inform readers of the International Journal of Osteopathic Medicine about the development and availability of a new specialized bibliographic database focused on osteopathic literature
The requirements for research and knowledge management are becoming more complex and demanding. The number of studies and articles is constantly increasing [1,2]. It is no longer enough to know what you knew three or five years ago [3,4]. Updating knowledge is becoming a constant challenge at many levels including in the daily therapeutic routine, in political and association work, in the education of students, in the transfer of information to journalists and patients or in the planning of research projects [5]. The extent and quality of evidence for osteopathic education: A scoping review
Standards of osteopathic training and regulation differ by geographical location, and little is known regarding the evidence base for education within osteopathy. This review is the first to chart and appraise the osteopathic pedagogical literature and presents recommendations for further research and practice. Osteopathic education: A scoping review
Osteopathic practice, training and regulation differ globally, regulatory frameworks range from statutory regulation to voluntary registers [1,2]. Typically, osteopathic education takes place in a further or higher educational setting such as a university or private institution. Historically, in the United Kingdom, osteopathy has been taught in small monotechnic institutions, usually by osteopaths and informed by wider pedagogical conventions in further and higher education [3]. It is now informed by a range of standards and benchmarks, set by the regulator and other stakeholder institutions [1,2,4]. (Source: International...

OSCAR (Osteopathic Single Case Research) – Assessing the effect of standard and biopsychosocial osteopathic management for patients with non-specific low back pain: Protocol for a Single Case Experimental Design (SCED)
Osteopathy has been shown to be effective in the management of chronic low back pain (LBP). Guidelines recommend biopsychosocial care for chronic, complex musculoskeletal conditions, including non-specific LBP. (Source: International Journal of Osteopathic Medicine)

What's wrong with osteopathy?
This commentary critically examines the foundational assumptions, practices and claimed distinctiveness upon which osteopathy was built and continues to be structured. Five areas which are considered to be highly problematic for osteopathy, namely its weak theoretical basis, inherent biomedicalism, monointerventionism, default practitioner-centredness and predilection for implausible mechanisms. It is argued that these areas require considerable reflection and action as if not remedied, they constitute a major threat to the development, unity and legitimacy of the osteopathic profession. Inter-rater reliability between osteopaths of differing clinical experience on sagittal plane running gait analysis: A pilot study
Clinical running analysis is commonly employed in the screening of running related injuries. Currently, there remains little research exploring the use of clinical running analysis within the osteopathic profession. Hence, the aim of this pilot study is to investigate the inter-rater reliability of sagittal plane visual gait observation amongst osteopathic practitioners. Letter to the editor, regarding: The role of 3D digital applications in manual therapy education – A scoping review
I congratulate the authors for publishing the topic regarding manual therapy education through 3D digital applications, it is an innovative topic for the profession. Unfortunately, a relevant study conducted by Ref.[1] was not included in this review. It is a randomized control trial which investigates the effect of 3D images for training undergraduate physiotherapy students with manual clinical skills compared with 2D images [1]. The study included 77 subjects and showed a significant effect of using 3D images in manual skills training with a medium effect size of 0.54. (Source: International Journal of Osteopathic Medicine)
