Clinicopathological characteristics of placental chorioangioma: A clinicopathological study of 30 cases
CONCLUSIONS: PCA is rare and may be misdiagnosed as malignant tumor, which may be related to pregnancy comorbidity and high risk of Down's screening, so improving the understanding of PCA can provide the basis for clinical diagnosis and intervention. TFE3 rearranged epithelioid hemangioendothelioma of the lymph node: A rare primary presentation of vascular tumor
We present a 49-year-old male patient who presented with an inguinal mass but was otherwise asymptomatic. Clinical and radiological workup failed to reveal any other primary lesion. The lymph node was excised and the histomorphological examination showed an epithelioid and spindle neoplasm with chondromyxoid stroma. The diagnosis of epithelioid hemangioendothelioma was suspected based on histomorphology and immunohistochemistry, which showed diffuse positivity for CD31, CD34, and TFE3 stains. This was further confirmed by the fluorescent in-situ hybridization (FISH) technique that showed TFE3 gene rearrangement.PMID:385637...

Distinctive presentation of neurobrucellosis as myelitis: A case report and literature review
We reported a case of NB that presented as myelitis as the main clinical presentation and reviewed the relevant literature. It is suggested that clinicians should consider NB, especially atypical neurological symptoms, when there is a suspicious contact history.PMID:38563711 | DOI:10.4103/ijpm.ijpm_991_22 (Source: Indian Journal of Pathology and Microbiology)

Strongyloides stercoralis infection masquerading as malignant ascites in a case of angiosarcoma
We present a case of a 56-year-old male with a known case of angiosarcoma liver with massive ascites and low-grade fever. He was clinically diagnosed as having malignant ascites and was planned for chemotherapy. During therapeutic cum diagnostic ascitic tap, cell block sections revealed the presence of cross sections of nematode S. stercoralis gravid uterus with eggs. Later, stool for ova and cysts also revealed multiple larval forms of the nematode. S. stercoralis hyperinfection is often accompanied by sepsis or meningitis with enteric organisms. Patient was started on tab. ivermectin 12 mg once a day for two days (in the...

Poorly differentiated thyroid cancer: Clinical, pathological, mutational, and outcome analysis
CONCLUSION: PDTC presents with worrisome features like large size, ETE, and rapid growth. Aggressive surgical resection with extended/radical thyroidectomy may result in better loco-regional control and improved survival. RAS was the frequent mutation detected. It is worthwhile to identify prognostic factors that can predict the course of PDTC.PMID:38563686 | DOI:10.4103/ijpm.ijpm_885_23 (Source: Indian Journal of Pathology and Microbiology)

Cleidocranial dysplasia associated with dentigerous cyst-review of literature and case report of two siblings
Indian J Pathol Microbiol. 2024 Mar 25. doi: 10.4103/ijpm.ijpm_532_23. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCleidocranial dysplasia (CCD) is a developmental anomaly of the skeleton and teeth which may be inherited, be transmitted as dominant characteristics in either male or female or even appear spontaneously. A case was reported in the department of oral medicine and radiology of two sisters age 17 and 19 years old with a chief complaint of milk teeth not falling since childhood. They presented specific physical and oral findings in common which suggested the idea of an undiagnosed syndrome. The sisters showed CCD characteristi...

Plausible mechanisms in malignisation of non-habit related chronic nonhealing traumatic ulcers of oral cavity
Indian J Pathol Microbiol. 2024 Mar 25. doi: 10.4103/ijpm.ijpm_800_23. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChronic nonhealing ulcers of the oral mucosa and lateral tongue, in particular, can transform into invasive oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Sometimes these ulcers do not heal even after the removal of the etiological agent that actually initiated these lesions, something similar to what happens in "neoplasia." Numerous factors have been postulated in the literature; however, the exact mechanism remains unclear. We hereby would suggest few plausible factors that could be considered for future studies to shed light on so...

Rare complications of heart transplant: Autopsy findings
CONCLUSION: Hence, autopsy remains the key procedure that can help establish the cause of death after cardiac transplant. It is also imperative for clinicians to have awareness and high index of suspicion for early detection of the ongoing complications and intervene either surgically or medically to prevent catastrophic events.PMID:38563698 | DOI:10.4103/ijpm.ijpm_690_23 (Source: Indian Journal of Pathology and Microbiology)

Darier disease: Histopathology revisited
Indian J Pathol Microbiol. 2024 Mar 25. doi: 10.4103/ijpm.ijpm_610_23. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDarier disease (DD) is a rare genodermatosis. Literature on this topic is overwhelmingly dominated by case reports with rare clinical presentations, which have mentioned the histopathologic features briefly. The aim of this study was to document the histopathology of DD. Skin biopsies diagnosed as Darier disease based on clinicopathologic correlation over 12 years were reviewed for various epidermal and dermal features. There were 16 patients included, who most commonly presented in the third decade, with slight female pred...

Pediatric pneumonia - A clinico-pathological study
CONCLUSION: Neither clinical features nor investigations reliably differentiate between viral and bacterial pneumonia. Autopsy has an important role in providing insights into the pathogenesis of pneumonia and suggests inappropriate antibiotic exposure. No prior Indian studies have been performed to compare the clinical and postmortem findings of pneumonia in children.PMID:38563703 | DOI:10.4103/ijpm.ijpm_700_23 (Source: Indian Journal of Pathology and Microbiology)
