Alpha-fetoprotein producing gastric cancer with divergent differentiation: Report of a rare case with review of literature
Indian J Pathol Microbiol. 2024 Feb 15. doi: 10.4103/ijpm.ijpm_389_23. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAlpha-fetoprotein-producing gastric cancer is a rare variant of gastric adenocarcinoma. This tumor is likely to be misdiagnosed, particularly in patients with liver metastasis. This rare subgroup of gastric carcinoma may show divergent differentiation on histology and may pose a diagnostic challenge to the pathologist. They have an aggressive course with a dismal prognosis.PMID:38427754 | DOI:10.4103/ijpm.ijpm_389_23 (Source: Indian Journal of Pathology and Microbiology)

Multicystic renal dysplasia, a histomorphological spectrum: Seven years experience from a tertiary care hospital
CONCLUSION: This series has been presented to highlight the various histomorphological features of MCDK. MCDK can be managed conservatively in most of cases due to autoinvolution and, hence, needs to be differentiated from other close differentials like polycystic kidney disease, cystic nephroma, and cystic partially differentiated nephroblastoma in order to avoid unnecessary surgical intervention.PMID:38427756 | DOI:10.4103/ijpm.ijpm_202_23 (Source: Indian Journal of Pathology and Microbiology)

Crystallizing galactocele: A rare case report and review of literature
Indian J Pathol Microbiol. 2024 Feb 19. doi: 10.4103/ijpm.ijpm_278_23. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCrystallizing galactocele is an uncommon condition that produces a viscous, chalky substance on fine needle aspiration cytology. (FNAC). Both the diagnosis and the management of this illness include the use of FNAC. Here, we discuss the case of a 25-year-old nursing woman who experienced left breast edema lump for two years. The upper outer quadrant of the leftt breast was involved by the hard, small, non-tender, and movable enlargement. The lesion's FNAC produced a thick, milky, and chalky substance. Numerous semi-transpar...

Lipoblastoma of the lip
Indian J Pathol Microbiol. 2024 Feb 19. doi: 10.4103/ijpm.ijpm_841_23. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLipoblastomas are benign tumors arising from embryonic white fatty cells that continue to proliferate and develop during the postnatal period. It commonly affects children 3 years of age or younger, with the neck being the most frequent site in the head and neck region. Only 10% of cases are seen at 10 years or above. The etiopathogenesis of lipoblastomas is linked to polysomy and rearrangement of chromosome 8q11-13 with or without the involvement of the pleomorphic adenoma gene 1 (PLAG1) gene. Here, we report one of the fi...

Disseminated multiloculated peritoneal inclusion cysts: Bubble trouble in belly
Indian J Pathol Microbiol. 2024 Feb 19. doi: 10.4103/ijpm.ijpm_556_23. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMultiloculated peritoneal inclusion cysts, usually arise from peritoneal mesothelium lining the serous cavity of the abdomen, pelvis and retroperitoneum. These lesions can be incidentally found on imaging or during surgery, and confirmation of the diagnosis is done by radiological imaging, histomorphology and immunohistochemical findings. Although fewer than 200 cases of solitary peritoneal inclusion cysts have been reported, their occurrence in a disseminated fashion has hardly ever been described in literature. Herein, we...

Indian J Pathol Microbiol. 2024 Feb 19. doi: 10.4103/ijpm.ijpm_385_23. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTInfections caused due to zoonotic hookworms are rare and are often under reported. Here we report a case of diarrheal disease caused by Ancylostoma ceylanicum, an important emerging zoonotic hookworm. There is limited knowledge about the epidemiology and disease burden of A. ceylanicum infections in Kerala. A 50-year-old male patient presented with complaints of loose stools for past five weeks. The laboratory investigations revealed a high total WBC count and eosinophil count. Diagnostic colonoscopy showed numerous worms w...

Syringoid eccrine carcinoma of the nipple in a male patient with lymph node metastasis: A case report
Indian J Pathol Microbiol. 2024 Feb 19. doi: 10.4103/ijpm.ijpm_716_23. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSyringoid eccrine carcinoma of nipple is an extremely rare neoplasm of adnexal origin with variable clinical appearance and diverse histologic findings. Syringoid eccrine carcinoma (SEC) is often a diagnostic dilemma due to its morphology and presentation. Usually, these malignancies arise as non-ulcerated nodules or plaques in the head & neck region including the trunk. They are locally aggressive and have an infiltrative growth pattern with a propensity for metastasis. SEC is characterized by syringoma-like tadpole mo...

Primary diffuse large B-cell lymphoma of the prostate: Histopathological diagnosis of a rare entity in the prostate
Indian J Pathol Microbiol. 2024 Feb 19. doi: 10.4103/ijpm.ijpm_325_23. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLymphoma of the prostate is rare whether it is primary extranodal lymphoma or secondary involvement of the prostate by primary lymphoma elsewhere. Of all the lymphomas of the prostate, primary lymphomas of the prostrate are very rare. Although less frequent, it should be a differential diagnosis when evaluating prostate tumors. Here, we report a case of a 61-year-old man who presented with hematuria with clot retention. A cystoscopy with clot removal and transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) was performed. This bio...
