Common Presentation of an Uncommon Small Intestinal Lymphoma: A Rare Case Entity
Primary gastrointestinal NHL accounts for 30 –40% of all extranodal NHL. Primary gastrointestinal lymphomas constitute 5% of total gut neoplasms. Bowel perforation is a severe life-threatening complication and sometimes initial presentation of gastrointestinal lymphoma. A 60-year-old man presented with complaints of abdominal pain, distensio n, nausea and vomiting. There was clinical suspicion of acute intestinal perforation, which was confirmed by radiology. The patient underwent emergency laparotomy. The resected bowel on histopathological examination and immunohistochemistry was diagnosed as the high-grade transformat...

Common and Rare Histological Variants of Hepatoblastoma in Children: A Pathological Diagnosis and Review of the Literature
Hepatoblastoma (HB) is a rare tumor, but it is the most common primary liver malignancy in children and comprised of approximately 1% of all pediatric malignancies. Mostly, this tumor is sporadic in nature but can show a syndrome association. Upregulation in Wnt/ β-catenin pathway can be there in 70–80% cases of HB. Most often present as abdominal mass and has a raised alpha-fetoprotein levels. Distant metastasis usually occurs in the lungs. HB is classified into 2 broad categories: epithelial and mesenchymal type. The majority of HB are epithelial type. The HB must be distinguished from focal nodular hyperplasia, hepat...

Clear-Cell Adenocarcinoma of the Gallbladder with Alpha-Fetoprotein Production: A Case Report and Review of the Literature
Gallbladder tumors are the fifth most common cancers of the gastrointestinal tract with poor prognosis and low survival. The most common type is adenocarcinoma of which the clear cell type is an unusual histologic variant with alpha-fetoprotein (AFP)-producing gallbladder carcinoma, reported extremely rarely, which makes the index case an uncommon entity. AFP secretion by gallbladder carcinomas may occur given the similar embryological origin of liver and gallbladder. Herein we report a case of an incidental carcinoma of the gallbladder in a 60-year-old woman with an elevated serum AFP concentration at presentation, who un...

The Effect of Laparoscopic Technique on the Surgical Outcome of Colorectal Cancer in a Small-Volume Rural Finnish Lapland Central Hospital
Conclusion: Our results showed that the introduction of laparoscopic colorectal surgery for treating cancer in a rural, small-volume hospital provided short- and long-term results comparable to findings from previous studies conducted in high-volume centers. Therefore, laparoscopy should be considered the treatment of choice for colorectal cancer in small, rural clinics.Gastrointest Tumors (Source: Gastrointestinal Tumors)

Lysyl Oxidase Mechanisms to Mediate Gastrointestinal Cancer Progression
Background: Malignancy is a complex process resulting from different changes such as extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling and stiffness. One of the important enzymes that contribute to ECM remodeling is lysyl oxidase (Lox) that is overexpressed in different types of human cancers. Because of the high prevalence and poor survival of gastrointestinal (GI) malignancies in this review, we discuss the association between Lox activity and the progression of GI cancers. Lox proteins are a group of extracellular enzymes that catalyzed the cross-linking of collagen and elastin, so they have important roles in the control of struct...

Gastrointestinal Luminal Stenting: The Early US Experience with the Duodenal HANAROSTENT
Self-expandable metal stents (SEMSs) are frequently utilized for palliation of malignant gastric and/or duodenal outlet obstruction (GDOO). Re-establishing luminal patency with accurate SEMS positioning while limiting migration and adjacent tissue injury is an important technical consideration and aim. The duodenal HANAROSTENT® was introduced in the USA in 2019 and developed with these challenges in mind. As the first center in the USA to deploy the duo denal HANAROSTENT® in clinical practice, we herein examine our early experience with its use. Specifically, we describe 7 consecutive cases of malignant GDOO in which a...

Expression of < b > < i > AdipoR1 < /i > < /b > and < b > < i > AdipoR2 < /i > < /b > and Serum Level of Adiponectin in Gastric Cancer
Conclusion: We found that expression level ofAdipoR1 andAdipoR2 is strongly higher; however, the level of circulating adiponectin is lower in gastric cancer. Our study suggests that the expression ofAdipoR1 andAdipoR2, besides the low level of adiponectin, may play an important role in the development and/or progression of gastric cancer.Gastrointest Tumors (Source: Gastrointestinal Tumors)

Recurrence of Hepatocellular Carcinoma in Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) Liver Transplant Recipients Treated with Pretransplant Direct-Acting Antiviral (DAA) Therapy
Conclusions: A strong trend was observed on both Kaplan-Meier and multivariate analyses toward increased post-LT HCC recurrence in patients who achieved SVR prior to LT with DAAs compared to patients who were viremic at LT. Caution is required when considering pre-LT treatment of HCV with DAAs in patients with HCC.Gastrointest Tumors (Source: Gastrointestinal Tumors)

Long-Term Survival under Arterial Chemoembolization and Sorafenib of a Patient with Hepatocellular Carcinoma and Tumor Atrial Thrombus: A Case Report and Literature Review
We present a rare case of a male patient with HCC and IVC TT extending to the RA. The atrial thrombus was the first manifestation of HCC diagnosed by cardiac ultrasound. So far, the patient has undergone 4 courses of transarterial chemoembolization in combination with systemic therapy with sorafenib, and under this therapeutic approach long-term survival has been achieved.Gastrointest Tumors (Source: Gastrointestinal Tumors)

Why Cannot BCLC 0- or A-Stage Patients Receive Curative Treatment?
Conclusion: Our finding indicates that a significant fraction of the BCLC 0/A HCC patients is unable to have initial curative treatment as recommended by BCLC guidelines. These early stages of HCC patients represent a distinctive subpopulation and are in need of further investigation to improve their survival outcomes.Gastrointest Tumors (Source: Gastrointestinal Tumors)
