Does orthodontic treatment improve the Oral Health-Related Quality of Life when assessed using the Malocclusion Impact Questionnaire-a 3-year prospective longitudinal cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: There was a significant improvement in OHRQoL following orthodontic treatment when assessed using a condition-specific measure for malocclusion. MIQ was found to be responsive to changes associated with orthodontic treatment.PMID:37499205 | DOI:10.1093/ejo/cjad040 (Source: European Journal of Orthodontics)

A comparison of CAD/CAM-based fixed retainers versus conventional fixed retainers in orthodontic patients: a systematic review and network meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: In the short term, CAD/CAM fixed retainers show promise as an alternative to traditional retainers. They may enhance periodontal health, as indicated by lower plaque index scores than conventional retainers. However, extensive research is needed to determine the long-term durability and effectiveness of CAD/CAM retainers in orthodontic treatment, particularly regarding their failure rate. Until comprehensive evidence is available, the use of CAD/CAM retainers should be tailored for each case.REGISTRATION: The protocol for this systematic review was registered at PROSPERO with the ID CRD42023412741.PMID:3747111...

Impact of orthognathic surgery on voice and speech: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Orthognathic surgery may have little or no impact on vocal characteristics during vowel production. However, due to the confounding factors involved, estimates are inconclusive. The most prevalent articulatory disorders in the preoperative period were distortion of the fricative phonemes/s/ and/z/. However, further studies must be carried out to ensure greater robustness to these findings.REGISTRATION: PROSPERO (CRD42022291113).PMID:37467104 | DOI:10.1093/ejo/cjad025 (Source: European Journal of Orthodontics)

Evaluation of failure rate of molar tubes with a modified bonding technique: a randomized clinical trial
CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS: The modified bonding technique did not significantly reduce the failure rate of molar tubes. The molar tubes bonded on the upper arch and second molars are more susceptible to debond.REGISTRATION: The trial was registered with ClinicalTrials.gov on 21 May 2022 (Registration number: NCT05391386).FUNDING: This research did not receive any funding.PMID:37467348 | DOI:10.1093/ejo/cjad029 (Source: European Journal of Orthodontics)

Mandibular second premolar distoangulation: a longitudinal follow-up from the mixed to the permanent dentition
CONCLUSIONS: The frequency of MnP2 distoangulation among orthodontic patients was 4.85%. Mild to moderate distoangulated Mnp2 spontaneously uprighted from the mixed to the permanent dentition. Small lateral incisors, second premolar agenesis, and infraocclusion of deciduous molar were frequently found in cases with MnP2 distoangulation.PMID:37452680 | DOI:10.1093/ejo/cjad038 (Source: European Journal of Orthodontics)

Self-correction of posterior crossbite in childhood: a systematic review of long-term follow-up studies
CONCLUSION: The self-correction of posterior crossbite in childhood is possible. However, the results of this research do not allow to affirm how often the self-correction of posterior crossbite can occur. New studies that assess factors associated with the occurrence of self-correction of this malocclusion, including oral habits, may increase the certainty of the evidence.REGISTRATION: PROSPERO CRD42022311935.PMID:37454178 | DOI:10.1093/ejo/cjad034 (Source: European Journal of Orthodontics)
