Social, intellectual, psychological, and attractiveness judgements of lay people about patients before and after combined orthodontic-orthognathic surgical treatment
CONCLUSION: Social judgement scores were higher (more positive) from post-treatment images of patient faces than their pre-treatment images. The findings highlight the possible indirect benefits combined orthodontic-orthognathic surgical treatment may have on an individual in a social setting.PMID:38376494 | DOI:10.1093/ejo/cjae004 (Source: European Journal of Orthodontics)

Effects of orthopedic treatment (distraction splint) on dentofacial deformities in patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis
CONCLUSIONS: The findings demonstrate the potential of DS treatment for patients with JIA and unilateral or bilateral TMJ involvement to generally support normal dentofacial growth or at least limit further deterioration of dentofacial deformities.PMID:38376495 | DOI:10.1093/ejo/cjae005 (Source: European Journal of Orthodontics)

Fat mass and obesity-associated protein (FTO) affects midpalatal suture bone remodeling during rapid maxillary expansion
CONCLUSION: FTO contributes to the osteogenic differentiation of SuSCs and plays a promoting role in midpalatal suture bone remodeling during the RME.PMID:38376496 | DOI:10.1093/ejo/cjae009 (Source: European Journal of Orthodontics)

Unilateral nasal obstruction mediates reversible morphological and phenotypic changes in masticatory muscles of growing rats
CONCLUSIONS: Unilateral nasal obstruction affects the morphology and contractile characteristics of the rat masticatory muscles during development, with possible involvement of NO in muscle hypofunction. These changes may revert to baseline levels if the nasal obstruction is eliminated before puberty in rats.PMID:38364324 | DOI:10.1093/ejo/cjae001 (Source: European Journal of Orthodontics)

Reliability and safety of miniscrew insertion planning with the use of lateral cephalograms assessed on corresponding cone-beam computer tomography images
CONCLUSIONS: Miniscrew insertion planning using lateral cephalograms, despite being safe in preventing contact with adjacent teeth, is limited in achieving bicortical placement and insufficient in completely avoiding incisive canal and nasal floor perforation.PMID:38364325 | PMC:PMC10873694 | DOI:10.1093/ejo/cjae003 (Source: European Journal of Orthodontics)
