The genetic and environmental contributions to variation in the permanent dental arch form: a twin study
CONCLUSION: The predominant source of occlusal variation within this group of Australian twins of Western European descent was controlled by genetic effects, and most were highly heritable. Generally, intra-arch occlusal variables showed greater heritability compared with inter-arch occlusal variables.PMID:37861389 | DOI:10.1093/ejo/cjad054 (Source: European Journal of Orthodontics)

External apical root resorption in African American orthodontic patients
CONCLUSIONS: More than half of the African American patients exhibit at least 2 mm of root resorption with orthodontic treatment. However, in this ethnicity, patient-related factors such as age, gender, dental malocclusion, and skeletal classifications, as well as treatment-related factors do not indicate a significant correlation with the risk of developing EARR.PMID:37851998 | DOI:10.1093/ejo/cjad059 (Source: European Journal of Orthodontics)

Three-dimensional changes in the cranial base associated with soft-diet feeding
CONCLUSIONS: Masticatory loading affects the skeletal development of the cranial base. The morphology of the sphenoid bone was affected in both the sagittal and transverse axes.PMID:37847809 | DOI:10.1093/ejo/cjad058 (Source: European Journal of Orthodontics)

Developing a universal and reliable temporomandibular joint reference system for quantifying morphological and positional changes
CONCLUSIONS: This study provides a universal and reliable reference system for TMJ assessment that is applicable to both limited and large FOV CBCT. It would improve comparability among diverse studies and enable comprehensive evaluations of TMJ positional and morphological changes during TMJ-related treatment follow-up such as splint therapy and disease progression.PMID:37824439 | DOI:10.1093/ejo/cjad055 (Source: European Journal of Orthodontics)

The prevalence of the failure of fixed orthodontic bonded retainers: a systematic review and meta-analysis
DISCUSSION: There is low-quality evidence to suggest that the failure rate of FOBR is relatively high. There is a need for high-quality, well-reported clinical studies to assess factors that can influence the failure rate of FOBR.REGISTRATION: CRD42021190910.PMID:37824794 | DOI:10.1093/ejo/cjad047 (Source: European Journal of Orthodontics)
