Effect of heat treatment and nitrogen atmosphere during post-curing on mechanical properties of 3D-printed orthodontic aligners
CONCLUSIONS: The mechanical properties of 3D-printed resin aligners were not considerably affected either by post-curing in N2 atmosphere or heat treatment.PMID:38073597 | DOI:10.1093/ejo/cjad074 (Source: European Journal of Orthodontics)

Gender-specific treatment effects and outcomes reported in orthodontic research. A cross-sectional empirical study
CONCLUSIONS: A very small proportion of research studies included gender effect assessment in their analyses. Of those, a quarter described significant effects. Nevertheless, careful analysis planning and strategies should be prioritized to allow for any meaningful interpretation.PMID:38071431 | DOI:10.1093/ejo/cjad073 (Source: European Journal of Orthodontics)

Patients' perception of orthodontic retainers: a systematic review
CONCLUSION: The current evidence, although very limited, suggests that orthodontic retainers have an initial negative impact related to discomfort and functional limitations, but they seem to regress over time. There is a preference for thermoplastic over Hawley-type retainers. However, thermoplastic retainers cause different functional difficulties, and bonded retainers present the advantage of affecting speech function less than orthodontic removable retainers, although they can facilitate oral hygiene problems.REGISTRATION: PROSPERO (CRD42022306665).PMID:38071751 | DOI:10.1093/ejo/cjad068 (Source: European Journal of Orthodontics)

Changes in the swallowing pattern and tongue posture during the transition from deciduous to mixed dentition-a longitudinal ultrasonography study
CONCLUSIONS: No statistically significant changes in swallowing pattern and tongue posture occurred during the transition period; however, a significant association between the swallowing pattern and tongue posture among subjects with normal occlusion, regardless of the dentition phase was detected.PMID:38001045 | DOI:10.1093/ejo/cjad066 (Source: European Journal of Orthodontics)

The effect of the dental follicle volume of palatally impacted canines on the relative position of the adjacent teeth
CONCLUSION: The dental follicle volume of the PICs does not seem to influence the relative position of the adjacent LI and FP mesiodistal tip, buccolingual inclination, and mesiodistal rotation. Early intervention could have been suggested to avoid certain malocclusion traits if significant displacements were demonstrated.PMID:38001047 | DOI:10.1093/ejo/cjad071 (Source: European Journal of Orthodontics)

Prognostic factors, outcomes, and complications for dental autotransplantation: an umbrella review
CONCLUSIONS: DAT is a technique-sensitive procedure requiring a multidisciplinary team, vigilant case assessment and thorough consideration of the respective prognostic factors involved. Despite methodological limitations reported across studies, DAT shows favourable success and survival rates, with a distinctive advantage of bone induction and soft tissue thickness preservation, and should, therefore, be considered as a viable treatment modality. Standardisation of clinical guidelines and practice are highly recommended.REGISTRATION: CRD42020202484.PMID:37995718 | DOI:10.1093/ejo/cjad067 (Source: European Journal of Orthodontics)

CAD/CAM-based 3D-printed and PVS indirect bonding jig system accuracy: a systematic review, meta-analysis, and comparative analysis of hard and soft CAD/CAM transfer trays
CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS: CAD/CAM transfer trays provide high bracket positioning accuracy, with soft transfer trays offering greater precision than rigid ones. Future randomized prospective trials are required to enhance the strength of the available evidence.REGISTRATION: Prospero (CRD42023401278 number).PMID:37977877 | DOI:10.1093/ejo/cjad069 (Source: European Journal of Orthodontics)
