Assessment of the prevalence and related factors of financial toxicity in cancer patients based on the COST scale: A systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Financial toxicity is prevalent in cancer patients and is increasingly evident after COVID-19. Furthermore, the odds of financial toxicity are higher in patients who are female, younger, whose cancer type is lung cancer, and from developing countries. These findings emphasize the significance of evaluating financial toxicity in cancer patients after COVID-19, especially in developing countries. This may play a pivotal role in helping patients cope with financial toxicity.PMID:38118267 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejon.2023.102489 (Source: European Journal of Oncology Nursing)

Fear of recurrence in women with ovarian cancer: A qualitative evidence synthesis
CONCLUSIONS: Women use a variety of approaches to manage their fear of recurrence. Further research on the most appropriate interventions for FCR tailored specifically to the needs of women with OC is needed.PMID:38113769 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejon.2023.102487 (Source: European Journal of Oncology Nursing)

Effectiveness of auricular acupuncture and pelvic floor muscle training in the management of urinary incontinence following surgical treatment for prostate cancer: A randomized clinical trial
CONCLUSIONS: Auricular acupuncture combined with pelvic floor muscle training was more effective, compared to pelvic floor muscle training alone, in reducing the impact of urinary incontinence on quality of life and reducing the odds of nocturia and urinary urgency.PMID:38113770 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejon.2023.102490 (Source: European Journal of Oncology Nursing)

Non-pharmacological interventions for chemotherapy-induced diarrhoea and constipation management: A scoping review
CONCLUSIONS: The characteristics of non-pharmacological interventions were diverse, and the outcomes were inconsistent among the same type of interventions. Diet and nutritional interventions show promise but further research is needed to better understand their role and to contribute to the evidence base. Nurses are well placed to assess and monitor for CIC and CID, and also deliver effective non-pharmacological interventions.PMID:38104513 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejon.2023.102485 (Source: European Journal of Oncology Nursing)

The association between inflammation-related biomarkers and the subtypes of cancer-related cognitive impairment in colorectal cancer patients: A latent profile analysis
This study aimed to identify distinct subgroups based on the patterns of CRCI, assess the heterogeneity among different subgroups, and investigate the potential correlations between the subgroups of CRCI and inflammation-related biomarkers. (Source: European Journal of Oncology Nursing)

Caregiver burden, mutuality, and family resilience in colorectal cancer caring: A mediating model analysis
CONCLUSIONS: This study examined the interaction between caregiver burden, mutuality, and family resilience for colorectal cancer caring and confirmed the mediating role of mutuality in caregiver burden and family resilience. Therefore, we suggested that clinicians should develop strategies to improve the relationship between patients and caregivers so that both parties can actively manage stress and trauma experiences for improved colorectal cancer management.PMID:38101244 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejon.2023.102480 (Source: European Journal of Oncology Nursing)

Taboo words in pediatric oncology: Communication experiences of nurses and physicians with dying children and their families
CONCLUSIONS: Communication with dying children and their families is essential. However, multiple barriers remain for healthcare providers to do so. That issue burdens the child and their family more during the end-of-life, which is already a challenging experience to handle. Healthcare professionals need urgent training in communication with the dying children and their families.PMID:38101245 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejon.2023.102466 (Source: European Journal of Oncology Nursing)
