Problem-solving process for central venous catheter occlusion within pediatric cancer care: A qualitative study
Central venous access devices play a crucial role in healthcare settings. However, there is concern regarding the high incidence of blockages occurring before the completion of treatments and existing guidelines for occlusion management are not consistently followed. To explore the decision-making and problem-solving process of occlusion management and identify enablers and barriers to implementing evidence for occlusion management in pediatric cancer care. The moderating role of just culture between nursing practice environment and oncology nurses' silent behavior toward patient safety: Multicenter study
Patient safety is a critical part of healthcare delivery that must be prioritized to guarantee optimal patient outcomes. Oncology nursing is a specialized area of nursing that demands great focus on patient safety because of the high-risk nature of the patient group. Nurses play an important role in ensuring that patients receive safe and effective care. However, the nursing practice environment can have a substantial impact on how nurses respond to patient safety problems. A just culture can promote open communication and identify potential safety issues, whereas a culture of silence can have a negative impact on patient ...

The value of performance status in predicting venous thromboembolism in lung cancer patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors
The incidence of venous thromboembolism (VTE) is notably high in lung cancer patients, particularly among those treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). Previous studies have focused on the relationship between Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) Performance Status (PS) and VTE risk in immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy, but available evidence is inconsistent. The application and use of artificial intelligence in cancer nursing: A systematic review
CONCLUSION: Electronic cancer nursing datasets should be established to enable artificial intelligence techniques to be tested and if effective implemented in digital prediction and other AI-based tools. Cancer nurses need more education on machine learning and natural language processing, so they can lead and contribute to artificial intelligence developments in oncology.PMID:38310664 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejon.2024.102510 (Source: European Journal of Oncology Nursing)

Effect of a telephone-based perioperative nurse-led counselling programme on unmet needs, quality of life and sexual function in colorectal cancer patients: A non-randomised quasi-experimental study
CONCLUSIONS: Perioperative nurse-led counselling reduced unmet needs and increased the overall quality of life by decreasing symptom levels but did not affect sexual health outcomes in patients with colorectal cancer surgery.PMID:38310665 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejon.2024.102504 (Source: European Journal of Oncology Nursing)

Mediating effect of social support between caregiver burden and quality of life among family caregivers of cancer patients in palliative care units
CONCLUSION: Social support mediated the impact of caregiver burden on caregiver quality of life. Family, society, and palliative care institutions should be integrated to take actions to reduce family caregiver burden, increase social support, and transfer the positive aspects of specific cultural contexts to the culture of palliative care in general to collaboratively cope with various problems related to end-stage cancer.PMID:38310666 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejon.2024.102509 (Source: European Journal of Oncology Nursing)

Post-surgery financial toxicity and its influencing factors in colorectal cancer care: A cross-sectional study
CONCLUSIONS: Financial toxicity was prevalent among postoperative colorectal cancer patients. Additional support and early interventions should be given to high-risk patients, including those with stomas, advanced disease stages, or experiencing longer postoperative duration. Apart from demographic factors, we identified that self-perceived burden, family resilience, and social support were also associated with financial toxicity, providing a new perspective for developing effective strategies against financial toxicity.PMID:38309254 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejon.2024.102518 (Source: European Journal of Oncology Nursing)

Can performance status mediate the relationship between therapy-related symptoms and health-related quality of life in children with cancer? A mediation model
CONCLUSIONS: The accumulated symptom burden, rather than individual symptoms, weighs heavily on the HRQoL. Revie ⊕: Impact of a resource-based life review intervention on patients with advanced cancer: A waitlist controlled trial
CONCLUSIONS: This study suggests that patients living with an advanced cancer and who received Revie ⊕ intervention may have maintained their self-esteem high over time. Observed results are promising, particularly considering the influence of the pandemic. Nevertheless, these findings do not allow us to draw definitive conclusions regarding the efficacy of the intervention on self-esteem. WCT seems not to be the appropriate design to highlight the added value of Revie ⊕ for this particularly vulnerable population.CLINICAL TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER: NCT04254926.PMID:38301385 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejon.2024.102506 (Source: Eu...
