COVID-19 Vaccines and the Skin: The landscape of cutaneous vaccine reactions worldwide
In 2021, we entered a new phase of the COVID-19 pandemic. As mass vaccinations are underway and more vaccines are approved, it is increasingly important for dermatologists to recognize potential cutaneous adverse events. In this article we review the dermatologic manifestations of COVID-19 vaccines worldwide as reported in clinical trial data and summarize additional observational reports of skin reactions to COVID-19 vaccines. Early-onset local injection reactions were the most common cutaneous side effects observed in clinical trials, while delayed injection reactions were the most common cutaneous side effect reported o...

Energy-based Devices for Hair Loss
Treatment options for hair loss have traditionally been limited to topical and systemic therapies. Systemic therapies for inflammatory hair disorders are often immunosuppressive, and systemic treatment of androgenetic hair loss can cause undesired effects on sexual and reproductive health. Topical agents have a favorable side effect profile compared with systemic therapies, but many topicals have poor transcutaneous absorption, limiting their concentration and action at follicular targets in the dermis. The Impact of COVID-19 on Teledermatology
The accelerated implementation and use of teledermatology during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic has met with successes and challenges. This review explores how telemedicine was used in dermatology before the pandemic, the regulatory adaptions made in response to the pandemic, and the effectiveness of the rapid implementation of teledermatology during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, and, finally, how teledermatology has expanded in response to the pandemic. This review examines lessons learned and how teledermatology's reliance on digital technologies might paradoxically exacerbate health care disparities, and...

The Impact of COVID-19 on Teledermatology: A Review
The accelerated implementation and use of teledermatology during COVID-19 has met with successes and challenges. This review explores first, how telemedicine was utilized in dermatology prior to the pandemic, the regulatory adaptions made in response to the pandemic and the effectiveness of the rapid implementation of teledermatology during COVID-19, and finally, how teledermatology has expanded in response to the pandemic. This review examines both lessons learned and how teledermatology ’s reliance on digital technologies might paradoxically exacerbate healthcare disparities, and finally, considers the future outlook. ...

Cutaneous Manifestations of COVID-19 in the Inpatient Setting
Cutaneous findings have increasingly been reported in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). This review discusses associated skin findings in COVID-19 patients in the inpatient setting, ranging from vasculopathy-related lesions associated with high hospitalization rate and poor prognosis to inflammatory vesicular and urticarial eruptions that are rarely associated with prolonged hospitalization. We also discuss other reported COVID-19 cutaneous manifestations such as Sweet's syndrome, purpuric eruptions, and Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C). While the relationship between dermatological ch...

Effect of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Delayed Skin Cancer Services
The COVID-19 pandemic has presented a unique set of challenges and lessons to cancer care centers around the world. During this unprecedented time, dermatologists have been pressed to balance early surgical interventions for skin cancer with the risk of COVID-19 transmission. Here, we aim to summarize evidenced-based recommendations for the surgical management and prioritization of three skin cancer categories (cutaneous melanoma, keratinocyte cancer, and Merkel cell carcinoma) during the COVID-19 pandemic. Clinical Patterns of Hair Loss in Men
A number of pathways and factors including oxidative stress, inflammation, prostaglandins, vasculogenesis, Wnt/ β-catenin, and transforming growth factor-β have been shown to be important in male androgenetic alopecia. There is limited but increasing evidence of the potential usefulness of antioxidants, anti-inflammatory agents, prostaglandins, and growth factors for treating of androgenetic alopecia. Lifes tyle factors and comorbidities including cardiovascular risk factors have been shown to be associated with male androgenetic alopecia. Further study of these pathways, factors, and comorbidities is needed to better un...

Understanding Causes of Hair Loss in Women
Hair loss affects millions of people worldwide and can have devastating effects on an individual ’s psychoemotional well-being. Today hair restoration technologies through hair transplantation have advanced with the use of robots and follicular unit extraction and grafting that it is possible to offer to patient’s excellent clinical results. Adjuvant modalities such as platelet-rich plasma injections, lasers, and stem cells can further enhance the durability, health, and appearance of hair transplants. (Source: Dermatologic Clinics)
