Lamotrigine for Treating Anger in Veterans With Posttraumatic Stress Disorder
Lamotrigine is an antiepileptic drug that was Food and Drug Administration approved in 2003 for use in the maintenance treatment of bipolar I disorder to delay the time to recurrence of new mood episodes. The mechanism by which lamotrigine achieves its therapeutic effect in the treatment of bipolar disorder is unknown. Here, we report on 2 Veterans with combat-related posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) endorsing significant anger, aggression, and agitation, who were treated with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, but whose residual symptoms of anger and aggression were ultimately successfully managed with lamotrigi...

Behavioral and Cognitive Response to Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors in Frontotemporal Lobar Degeneration: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
Conclusions The current meta-analysis supports SSRIs as an intervention for management of behavioral symptoms of FTLD. Marked improvements were seen in disinhibition, irritability, aggression, and aberrant motor activity across studies. However, apathy/loss of empathy did not show similarly promising results. A deteriorative effect on cognition was seen associated with SSRI use. (Source: Clinical Neuropharmacology)

Real World Pharmacological First Treatment Patterns of Patients With Parkinson Disease and Disease Duration: A Large-Scale Cohort Study Using an Health Maintenance Organization Database
Conclusions First antiparkinsonian drug choice might be associated with time until l-DOPA initiation but may represent disease severity at the time of prescription, thus also affecting survival time as well. Real-world data illustrated that this choice is also age and sex dependent. (Source: Clinical Neuropharmacology)

Efficacy and Safety of Intranasal Dexmedetomidine During Recovery From Sevoflurane Anesthesia in Children: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
Background Intranasal drip of dexmedetomidine in children with sevoflurane anesthesia can reduce anesthesia and restlessness. However, there is still some controversy. We conducted a meta-analysis to explore the effect of intranasal infusion of dexmedetomidine on the quality of recovery during the recovery period, to provide certain guidance for clinical application. Methods Web of Science, PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library were used for literature search. Systematic reviews were based on PRISMA (the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis). Results A total of 14 articles...

Oseltamivir-Induced Mania in a Patient With Influenza A
Oseltamivir is an antiviral drug often preferred in treating viral infections. Its use has increased owing to annual influenza outbreaks and the COVID-19 pandemic. Although its adverse effects are often seen in the gastrointestinal system, it has other adverse effects that can prevent its use, for example, neuropsychiatric events. In this case report, we present a manic episode case caused by the use of oseltamivir. (Source: Clinical Neuropharmacology)
