Usability Evaluation by Nurses of a Knowledge-Based System of Care Plans for People Hospitalized by COVID-19
The aim of this study is to analyze the usability by nurses of the Knowledge-Based System “Diagnostics care for COVID-19.” A convenience sample of 16 nurses was selected, among hospital workers and external experts. The group was divided into three subgroups intentionally to obtain different usability perspectives. Usability was evaluated by the System Usability Scale questionnaire. The participants completed the questionnaire on general usability, data inputs, and information output, after completing a minimum of 12 care plans. The first subgroup used real cases and the “think aloud” technique, the second simulate...

Exploring the Outcomes and Satisfaction of Automated Physiological Monitoring Systems Among Nurses
Vital signs are central to the assessment of physiologic functions of patients and must be included in the electronic health record. The purpose of this retrospective and cross-sectional design study was to evaluate use of—and satisfaction with—automated physiological monitoring systems. Usage data from a hospital database were analyzed 3, 6, and 12 months after implementation of the automated system (June 2018 to May 2019). In addition, questionnaires were completed by 168 nurses, and 20 nurses were interviewed between August/September 2020 and October/November 2020, respectively. Results revealed that usage frequency...

Comparative Analysis of Pain, Muscle Strength, Disability, and Quality of Life in Middle-Aged and Older Adults After Web Video Lower Back Exercise
This study analyzed the effect of lower back exercise using Web for each age group to use it as nursing intervention. We conducted a randomized experiment with 54 patients with low back pain, composed of 26 middle-aged and 28 older adult people with low back pain who visited a joint center. The participants were instructed to perform the exercise at least twice a day, four times a week. Pain, muscle strength, disability, and quality of life were measured before the exercise intervention, and data were collected again 8 weeks after. The data were analyzed using independent t tests, χ2test, Fisher's exact tests, repeated me...

Education to Improve Point of Care Documentation in Home Care Nurses: A Quality Improvement Project
Home care nurses are expected to document their care delivery while in the patients' homes. Point of care documentation ensures that information in the EHR is accurate, timely, and accessible to all care team members. Standard training emphasized the features and functions of the different tabs within the electronic record. Managers and nurses reported standard training was not effective. The purpose of this project was to perform a post-implementation evaluation of the incorporation of point of care documentation, using case study scenarios, into the EHR training to determine if there was improved timeliness of documentat...

Learning Outcomes of Digital Learning Interventions in Higher Education: A Scoping Review
Implementing digital technologies has become a policy priority worldwide among all types of education. The COVID-19 pandemic has further accelerated educational institutions' efforts to reorganize their teaching and introduce new digital learning technologies. Although using digital technologies in higher education, including nursing, is considered a modern and innovative way of teaching and learning, uncertainty exists concerning these technologies' actual usefulness in achieving positive learning outcomes. The aim of this scoping review was to examine the current evidence related to the effects of using digital technolog...

The Effect of Computer-Based Training on Self-care and Daily Living Activities in Patients With Lumbar Discectomy Surgery: A Randomized Controlled Study
This research was conducted to determine the effect of computer-based discharge training on patients with lumbar disc surgery on self-care agency and independence in daily living activities. A randomized controlled study was conducted on 60 patients, 30 in the intervention group and 30 in the control group. Computer-based lumbar disc surgery discharge training and a CD containing the training content were given to the intervention group after the surgery, whereas the control group received routine discharge training in the ward. The data of the study were collected using a Patient Information Form, the modified Barthel Ind...

Development and Implementation of a Pediatric Nursing-Clinical Decision Support System for Hyperthermia: A Pre- and Post-test
This article describes the development process and application of the Pediatric Nursing-Clinical Decision Support System for Hyperthermia. Firstly, we formed the Pediatric Nursing-Knowledge Base for Hyperthermia, which combines publicly available clinical practice guidelines and nursing routines of hyperthermia management. Then, following the nursing process framework, the system was developed using clinical decision support technology. Finally, a pre- and post-test were adopted to examine the effectiveness, usability, and feasibility before (1st to 31st of August 2018) and after (1st to 31st of December 2019) using the sy...

Identification and Classification of Usability Problems in a Nursing Information System: A Heuristic Evaluation
Nursing information system is a system that nurses are required to use in order to perform their daily activities. Poor user interface design of nursing information system can cause problems in nurses' interaction with the system. This research aimed to evaluate the usability of nursing information system. During this study, five evaluators examined the nursing information system with the heuristic evaluation method and by using the checklist of Nielsen usability principles. Then, the identified problems were categorized into 10 Nielsen usability principles, and the severity of the problems was determined. They also attrib...

Negative Emotions Induced by Work-Related Information Technology Use in Hospital Nursing
There is a lack of research into the implications of information technology-related issues for nurses' experiences and well-being at work. However, negative work experiences can generate negative emotions, which, in turn, can negatively affect well-being. Despite this, research has not systematically addressed negative emotions generated by work-related information technology use in hospital nursing. Drawing on data collected through focus groups and interviews with a total of 15 ward nurses, this paper identifies the discrete negative emotions that emerge from work-related information technology use in hospital nursing an...

Facilitating the Implementation of Standardized Care Plans in Municipal Healthcare
Standardized care plans have the potential to enhance the quality of nursing records in terms of content and completeness, thereby better supporting workflow, easing the documentation process, facilitating continuity of care, and permitting systematic data gathering to build evidence from practice. Despite these potential benefits, there may be challenges associated with the successful adoption and use of standardized care plans in municipal healthcare information practices. Using a participatory approach, two workshops were conducted with nurses and nursing leaders (n = 11) in two Norwegian municipalities, with the object...

Bibliometrics and Co-Citation Network Analysis of Systematic Reviews of Evidence-Based Nursing Guidelines for Preventing Inpatient Falls
This study explored the comprehensiveness of systematic reviews in four guidelines for preventing inpatient falls using bibliometrics and a co-citation network technique. Citations (n = 659) and 9417 unique bibliographic records written by 6537 authors were collected from the guidelines in January 2020. The results showed none of the references spanned all four authoring bodies, whereas only 0.1% and 4.7% of the references spanned three and two of the authoring bodies, respectively. The co-citation analysis revealed differences in the scope and primary concerns among the development groups, even in the same setting, with d...

A Comparison of Voice Recognition Program and Traditional Keyboard Charting for Nurse Documentation
The purposes of this study are threefold: (1) compare the document times between a voice recognition system and keyboard charting, (2) compare the number of errors between the two methods, and (3) identify factors influencing documentation time. Voice recognition systems are considered a potential solution to decrease documentation time. However, little is known to what extent voice recognition systems can save nurses' documentation time. A pilot, simulation study was conducted using a voice recognition system and keyboard charting with 15 acute care nurses. A crossover method with repeated measures was utilized. Each nurs...
